Configuring Microsoft MS-DOS exit button

Hello

Since the Escape-key is widely used in MS-DOS games for different menus etc, i want to choose another way to exit the emulator (Dos box via Dfend (Dfend is my choosen emulator))

The preset in hyperlaunch uses 1500 ms as the "exit emulator key wait" and the "exit emulator button" is global (esc)

Hyperspin still exit MS-DOS on a single esc-button push, not by holding it down as i tought this configuration would do...

Do i need to setup a multiple button combo, Esc + Enter maybe?

How to i do this?

I dont really understand the correct way to edit the button input in the "exit emulator button" field....

I am almost complete with my bartop build and its turning out great!

Have a nice weekend!

You can do a key combo if you like.

I wouldn't choose a hold key if it is still going to be the escape button.

If you have a dedicated exit button you could change all your emulators to use an unused key on your keyboard (not escape). Could be a hassle.

Or for ms dos why not use a keymapper as explained here.

http://www.rlauncher.com/wiki/index.php?title=Keymapper#ahk

That way you can still use the esc key if it's wired that way (I have assumed you are using a keyboard encoder like the ipac) and remap it to an unused key.

I just use the DOS escape key to exit the game, and I have my bumpers L set to "Y" for yes, and R set for "N" for No. In the DosBox built in keymapper.  So I can hit the escape on the menu of the DOS game, and hit yes to quit.  No real need for hyperspin to do it when it can quit on it's own.

My Dfend Reloaded launching Dosbox has never quit instantly using the escape key, it's always behaved as if it is in dos and you are actually hitting the escape key in the game.  So I don't know about that, never had it happen to me.  The escape key for exiting hyperspin emulators doesn't affect my Dfend Reloaded.  I actually have to use the escape key within the emulated dos environment if I want to "return to dos", which returns to the hyperspin wheel.

Thanks for all the feedback!

It differs so much how the DOS games exit. Some require "Y" and "N" confirmation, some "A" , while others require "D" (for exit to DOS). Some games also have the ingame menu at F10 instead of ESC.

My bartop dosent have enough buttons to distribute that many different keys.

I do not want to create one key preset for each game ...

If i want to use the key combo Esc+ Enter to force quit, how to i type that into the "exit emulator button" field?

And is that the correct way to force quit trough DFend?

Have you guys made multiple presets for the different games?

It seems much easier to force quit, contra choosing trough the menus.

Can someone please explain to me how i set a different exit emulator key for MS DOS.

I can only find this under general settings in hyperlaunch HQ, but that is global (?) for all emulators...

I want to use the combo Esc&Enter.

I have tried to change the value in "exit emulator key wait" but nothing happens, still exits with single esc push.

It's only global if you are under the Global section.

The instructions at the top of the "set exit emulator key" screen are there for a reason.

  • 1 month later...

It now works exiting MS DOS by holding down the esc button for 3 sec.

My only problem is that this only works through a keyboard, not with my arcade buttons.

when i hold the button who is mapped as the esc key on my cab, it only repeats the input.(ingame esc-menu is on-off-on-off-on-off...)

I am using the xpadder keymapper, is there some settings here that can fix this?

any help would be appreciated!
