Magic Engine 1.1.3 + Daemon Tools Lite

Hello everyone,

I have setup every system that I want to use for hyperspin, with the glaring exception of the NEC TurboGrafx CD.

I cannot, for the life of me, get Magic Engine to recognize my virtual drives. All I get under "Boot CD" is "No CD-Rom Drive" Instead of the drive letter(s).

Now, it's worth noting a few things.

1.) I have tried several differant BIOS in the Magic Engine's program directory. (syscard3.pce included)
2.) I do not have a physical disc drive on my laptop. It's simply too small in size to support one.

3.) Despite not having a physical disc drive, I have been able to use Daemon Tools succesfully with Sega Saturn.

4.) I have tried several differant game images. (iso, cue, bin) from several differant sources

5.) I also tried out TurboEngine (Recognizes my virtual drive, but won't load the game)

6.) Also yes, the TurboGrafx 16 games play just fine. Finally got to try out Bonk after 20 years lol

I would really apreciate any help you can give. All I really want is to play the Castevania - Rondo of Blood import.

( If there's anything else worth playing, feel free to fill me in. )

If you like rpgs ys book 1 and 2 are good. Bonk 3 is fun.

If I set this up again I would use mednafen or retroarch mednafen core. Both are easier to setup than magic engine and just as good imho. Good luck.

Would you happen to know of a guide or tutorial on setting up Mednafen? I can't even get the program to open.

I've got every other emulator setup except for the TurboGrafx CD... I don't understand why this system is so complex to get going lol

Madnafen does not like to run in a Remote Desktop Session so it will not launch if you are doing it that way.  If you want to continue to pursue magic engine.  I only have 1 CDRom in my system like you(dtools one).  I am using Dtools 4.48.1.0037.  My CD Drive is set to SCSI is dtools.  In Magic Engine my PCE.ini CDRom section looks like this:

# ----
# cd-rom settings
# ----
#

[cdrom]

  ;
  ; CD-ROM driver
  ; --
  ;   0 -> auto-detect  [default]
  ;   1 -> SPTI (WinNT)
  ;   2 -> ASPI

  ;   1 (min) .. 99 (max)  [default = 8]
  ;

  ;   1 -> first  CD-ROM drive  [default]
  ;   2 -> second CD-ROM drive

I know for a while when I set this up I was getting the bios/boot screen in for TGCD and it was not auto launching the game.  I had a similar issue with Sega CD.  Most my tg16 games are .Cue and .ISO.  My Que files are renamed to HS Names so make sure your cues are named properly as that is what needs to mount the image. Before testing anything with HS magic engine should be able to load the CD Image directly.  Mount image in dtools manually(the cue file).  Launch PCE.  Make sure game title shows up in bootCD menu.  Only reason I still use magic engine is because I have been lazy and do not want to enter the giant save code for Ys book 1 and 2 as I am over halfway through the game to switch emulators and those long save codes are really lame.  After I beat this game I will be switching this system over to retroarch mednafen core.  Hope this helps.  Good luck
