I am running a HTPC rig with hyperspin 1.3 and all videos downloaded. Tried 'renaming' mp4 files to .flv, no work, tried renaming flv to .mp4 no work.

I simply don't get any videos when loading hyperspin. Windows 7 64 bit running with all paths corrected. I did read something about the intel not liking hyperspin but wanted to verify this.

You read correctly. Intel graphics are not supported. Your drivers are the issue. Either wait for new drivers, that "may" fix your issue, or use a real graphics chipset manufacturer.

What seems to be the issue with the intel chipset?

Some of us cant use a real graphics chipset, my HTPC has no slot.

just to be clear, the videos play PERFECTLY on an hd4000. they just won't play in hyperspin.

to say (after the event) that they are not supported, sounds like an easy way out.

how do we know it is an intel problem? is it not possible it could be an issue with hyperspin 1.3 considering the videos play perfectly in every other program?

i'm not trolling here guys, just seeing the other side of the coin...

like Drkdweller above, i am intending to run hyperspin on my htpc, and i don't have an available slot for a dedicated gpu... i choose an ivy bridge 3570k BECAUSE it had an HD4000, and at the time was considered the best, most effecient htpc cpu...

Well, considering that the Intel HD 4000 chip-set is the ONLY chip-set to have issues reported, kinda shows that its an issue with the chip-set itself. The video playback engine is a plug-in nothing there to be fixed.

While Intel isn't going to release hyperspin related issues (HyperSpin is not on any corporate radar) they already report video playback issues in certain situations:

KNOWN ISSUES IN DRIVER VERSION 2761

VIDEO PLAYBACK

 Windows Media Player* application: Corruption may be seen in video playback after changing the display resolution.

Not the same but hmm, garbled video. There are also reports online of garbled video with some tv tuners.

Semi-Accurate has a nice write up on the Intel HD4000 "Four Months Later". In that article this is the summary:

"One of the things that I brought up in my initial review was the fact that Intel was using support for 100 games as a marketing bullet point. Supporting only 100 games is absurd, and as we found the HD 4000 actually supported quite a few games that weren’t on that list. But that list still stands, and with the driver update in May Intel added only 14 games to that list. Progress is progress, but if this is the pace that Intel going to stick with then they have about as much chance of catching up to their competitors as an ice cube has of escaping a forest fire."

Here are the release notes for the current driver.

Good news is they fixed a ton of issues, bad news is they have a ton of issues. And this is just a minor random list, only looking at support and issues on TOP tier titles. Kinda sad that minecraft wont even play right on the HD 4000.

As far as the videos playing outside of hyperspin, realize there probably isn't the same hardware acceleration involved and hyperspin is doing much more than playing video. It's possible that if the smoothing and other features introduced in 1.3 were disabled it "might" correct the problem, but there is not much point in that and it's a long-shot anyway. The long and the short of it is chances are that if your using Intel HD 4000 your probably stuck with HyperSpin 1.2 and FLV if you want to play videos (which still works just fine), and we can all hope for some fix from Intel down the line that fixes this too. Everyone else should be OK to upgrade to 1.3 and above.

And in my own tests, I've installed at least 50-60 pc games on that chip-set, 15-20% of those wouldn't work with Intel hd 4000 but work on everything else. It's unfortunate and a real bummer, but this stuff happens. The only reason that the chip-set is decent for emulators is that the lions share do not use any acceleration at all, in those cases it doesn't matter what chip-set you use (even usb ones are probably fine).

Note: for anyone stuck with this issue and needing flv videos EmuMovies has a simple converter on the website. http://emumovies.com/forums/index.php/files/file/1065-emumovies-video-converter/

PS: For the record, I am in now way a hater of Intel. My Desktop, Laptop, Media Center, and Bartop Arcade ALL have Intel i7 Processors. They all also have nVidia graphics cards (save for the laptop which has secondary ATI graphics.) Funny story, I have been making new Atari 2600 video snaps on the Laptop when i'm away, I can't capture ATARI 2600 when using the Intel graphics as the frame rate drops to 15-20 fps!

Ty Circo, that was a lot more detailed.

Are the FLV files still on the FTP?

We have officially removed FLV files from the EmuMovies servers and will no longer support the format, however we do offer an simple to use (One Click) converter.

EmuMovies Video Converter

NOTE: Converted FLV's are 1:1 on quality but may be up to triple the MP4 file size

dang, just added about 10 systems to the cab over xmas, but you had already announced you pulled them, I was hoping they might be on the fpt still. Triple the size ouch, I don't have much room, looks like those systems will just have to be snaps.

Remember that one of the main point of the MP4's were that they were much smaller than FLV's

If you grab the 240p MP4's and Convert to FLV they should be around the same size as the 480p MP4's

Just a heads up. My i5 with Intel 2500 graphics is doing the same thing. I'm in the process of updating the drivers now to see if fixes it.

EDIT: still garbled after the update, back to FLV!

Hopefully, a solution or new drivers will come along to fix this situation. I just recently updated my arcade with a new pc using a 3570k, and the integrated HD 4000 graphics had me excited to not need a dedicated GPU.

Is anyone aware of other emus that are having issues with the HD4000 graphics?

Hi, I have an intel 2600k in my machine with an arcade vga3000 for my graphics card. I'm not really sure what integrated graphics mean. Will I be able to update to mp4 since I'm using the arcade vga3000 or am I not going to be able to update to mp4?

You should be fine for mp4 since you have a true graphics card. AFAIK, you computer should default to the card if it senses one is present. If not, a simple BIOS setting will ensure you're running graphics off of the card, not the integrated.

Integrated graphics have been around for a long time through the motherboard's Northbridge, and have generally been pretty weak. Intel and AMD have more recently integrated graphics on to the processor die, significantly improving the resulting graphics.

Add one more to the list, I just built a new i7 based HTPC and bought an Asus P8 Z77-V Lk motherboard which has onboard HDMI, sadly the chipset is the now dreaded HD 4000...

Any suggestions for a new video card?

Since its for a HTPC it needs to support HDMI 1.4a and DTS HD/MA pass through for movies...

Anyone have a similar setup ?

Size is no problem for me personally if quality improves. Will your converter batch convert Circo? Can I point it at the directory and come back in an hour to a completed job?

Also, I am running a small footprint case HTPC with a Card slot that has about 3/4 inch clearance (Acer) so need a very slim video card with low profile brackets. Any recommendations guys so I can take advantage of the recent MAME developments? That is all I will use it for.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the GTX 650 TI has been rock solid for all my HTPC needs. Thanks again @MonkeyJug.

Having the system and card tuned for optimal performance I notice zero delay in Hyperspin during startup and when switching themes and loading videos. I have Hyperspin configured for "BEST" quality mode also. XBMC also when configured with the highest settings also runs flawlessly.

I'm very happy with the GTX 650 TI and would recommend it to anyone struggling with the Intel HD 2500/4000 GFX chipsets. It sucks to have to spend extra $ when the onboard chipset should do its job properly, but it does make the problem go away :)

Aupton, thanks bud. I looked for your suggested card but the closest I got was the GIGABYTE GV-N610D3-1GI GeForce GT 610 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125428

Going to install it now and see how we fare so I will report back. I am trying to replace the onboard Intel X4500 graphics which haven't really choked on anything yet but things definitely don't look smooth so will compare.

UPDATE: Things look good and my windows experience score went from a 3.5 to a 4.8. Transitions look smoother as do images. Can anyone recommend any specific games in MAME that are not that playable with Intel onboard graphics but should be now. Just curious to test.

Aupton,

I went looking for this card today on your advice but the best I was able to do was Gigabyte GT 610. I installed it and my Windows Experience went from 3.5 to 4.8 so things are rockin' running smoothly and it fit inside the case great.

I heard I can over clock this card but not sure how.

Ill add myself as well. It's a shame intel's top integrated graphics, on one of their most popular CPUs is incompatible...

FYI,

I installed Hyperspin on my Surface Pro (Intel HD 4000 chipset) and had the same issue.

Then I installed Virtualbox with a virtual XP OS for my older games and put Hyperspin on that as well, and the video play and look great.

Not sure why they worked in the virtual environment, I guess it's the virtual graphics card?
