Help setting up Pinball FX2

Roadrunner

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've done some themes for this and now it would be nice to be able to use them. I'm currently on an old version of Hyper Launch version 1.0.48.5. Why such an old version? Because I have old emus and don't want to have to update everything to fix what's already is working very well.

I'm hoping that I can get Pinball FX2 setup with this version. Anyone want to help this dumb guy out? I'd like to be able to start launching these themes myself. Thanks!

RocketLauncher should work with most of the older emus, except for a few ones that have module options to use legacy versions or that changed so much that didn't made sense to keep support for the older versions.

As an example, I can say that even being one of the RocketLauncher developers, I didn't had the time to update my emus for a long time and still have a completely working setup on my end.

If you are willing to try again to update your launcher, just let us know in which emus you have problems and we will try to help you on them.

MAME for example has a legacy mode option on the module settings if you want to use a very old version. Others improved so much the emulation that makes much more sense to spend 5 minutes updating the emulator than figuring out how to support older versions.

Unfortunately, we cannot be of much help on the older hyperlaunch versions as they had many bugs and underdeveloped features that could cause many issues. Our time is limited and it would be impossible to support and figuring out what is going on on every old version that is out there.

By the way, nice work on the art stuff that you made. They are just amazing.

I've done a separate install of HS & RL with just FX2 but at the moment the auto selecting of the game is no working. I have a feeling it because I don't have the full set (no football tables) so it needs up selecting achievements.

Okay thanks everyone that is greatly appreciated.

So it sounds like I've got two options - try again on RocketLauncher or use PC Games on what I've got. Seeing as how it probably makes sense to update the Rocket Laucher, I'll try this avenue again. I'll use this thread going forward to update my progress. Many thanks for those who've replied with offers for help!

Okay thanks. My version of Mame supports Cave games. If I upgrade to a new version of Mame you're saying that I can get support for older roms that may not work wtih the new version?

This is the real challenge here... if I upgrade MAME then a lot of the time you have to update the ROMs because they don't work with newer versions... that's just not something I really want to do.

What other systems do you have set up on your cab Roady?

I'm assuming your putting it on your cab and it has Steam on it?

I have:

Mame

Mess - for Colecovision

Stella - for Atari

Future Pinball

Steam online for Pinball FX2

Jukecade

Nestopia

Daphne

Its running on Windows 7 (hence why I had to get the online steam app) and is inside a cab. I never did set up a separate wheel for Cave but I suppose I should probably do that.

What I'll do is set up a DropBox which you can share (pm me your email address so I can add you to the folder)

I've set up Pinball FX2 already but it's not selecting the game correctly which I think is down to the ini being complete and me not having the Footy games. I'll need to edit the ini file.

I'll add some other emus as well but the jukebox will be over my head.

If anyone else would like to help please also pm me.

There is no need for using old modules. Not recommended also.

Also, there is no need to update your mame install if you don't want to. Simply update to RocketLauncher and test if everything work as it is. If not, you are just probably using a very old mame version. In that case, just open RLUI, select the system MAME, go to the modules tab, select the MAME module and click on the small icon to edit the global settings for this module. Inside this window you will find the option named LegacyMode. Just set it to true and you should have everything working fine.

If you have any unforeseen issue or doubt just create a topic on the RocketLauncher forums. I do not visit this site so often anymore, so you probably have faster answers over there not only by me but also from the other RocketLauncher developers.

In terms of cave and mame I just went through that exercise last night. I had mame 149 and updated to 162. It all works fine, I tested a few cave games. Only note is its fine in both mame and cave after you change romcheck from false to rom only in hyperlaunch

There is only one version available to download. After installing the one version, RocketLauncher will automatically update your files when you enter the RocketLauncherUI.

To install RocketLauncher go to the rlauncher.net page, click on the wiki link, and if you have hyperlaunch3 already installed just follow the transition wiki instructions. If you do not have hyperlaunch3, follow the instruction on the frontend | Hyperspin wiki page.

edit: correcting typo.

  • 4 months later...

Sorry if this is incorrect area to post, but finding it hard to find latest media for Pinball FX2. have finally got RL loading straight into tables i choose however when I try hypersync all media are from old database's and I cant seem to figure out what I have to do to get media to sync?? From what I know I have latest HS/RL and platinum for both HL and EmuMovies to try and sync but everytime I update database my XML file reverts to an older version instead of the newest version. Sorry again for long post and thank you to anyone that can help!
