Any help would be awesome. I am at my wits end.  I have Hyperspin 1.4. I am using Rocketlauncher. I have mame games only and just want to be able to configure all the buttons I have on my board. I have 2 joysticks, and 20 buttons. 6 buttons beside each joystick. another 2 buttons just above joystick that I would like to use to add credits/coins and player 1 and player 2 buttons. above that I have the remaining four buttons. Exit. Pause. Favorites. Play. I have been told I need joy2key and I have been told I do not need Joy2key.  Im a newbie to all of this so some simple step by step help would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Thanks. The joysticks and buttons are all connected to the pc via usb cable. Windows sees all the buttons and all the joystick movements.

Enter any game in mame....hit the tab button.

Also most emulators have a keymapper in their menu

When that does not work.....you may end up moddifing the cfg files

Kind of primitive...but it is one of the few methods that I find always works.

(If you modify ini, cfg ,xml etc....ALWAYS make a copy of the original in case you mess something up. )

Connected to the PC using what? IPac or Keywhiz or something similar? Is this a control panel/joysticks/buttons you wired together?

if your PC recognises your input device as a joystick

then MAME will automatically assign joy buttons

All you have to do is make sure that,  the Button # in MAME matches the same Button # you wired.

if you assigned Button 9 to your Favorites button than the Favorites button assigned by MAME should also be Joy button 9

if not remap the button in MAME or change the wire that is connected to your Favorites button.

you should see something like this
