controller issues galore...newb needs help!

Hi there! I have studied as much as I could learning about MAME, HyperSpin (amazing), and RocketLaunch. I believe i have everything fully setup in HyperSpin/RocketLaunch/MAME where all of my roms are correctly loaded and i can run them.

 

I am using the HyperSpin Mame 166 download located here.

 

Problem: once the game starts, the keyboard doesn't work! on my old system the keyboard worked fine but now it appears the mapping is all over the place and none of the buttons work (pressing the 5 key no longer is insert coin, etc).

 

Furthermore, I have a North coast custom arcade joystick setup that also will not work once i start a game. 

 

I have tried to mess around in MameUI under controllers and of course in RocketLaunchUI...nothing seems to fix the problem and correctly map the keys.

 

any ideas?

Try hitting tab key, then you can assign keys to system or individual game

If the above from drew does not work then you could delete the "default.cfg" in the "cfg" folder, back it up first though. Next time you run Mame a new one will be created and your controls will be back

Sounds like messing around in MAMEUI and RocketLaunchUI might have set you back some. The Northcoast Customs is an Ultimarc iPac2 or iPac4 which is a keyboard encoder set to MAME standard controls by default. It takes an Ultimarc utility to change the iPac defaults so you probably didn't do that. Maybe set everything in MAMEUI and RocketLaunchUI back to defaults and begin again.

 

By the way, the Northcoast Customs are SlikStik clones. In your MAME setup under the "ctrlr" folder the correct config should be SlikStik_Classic.cfg for the NCC 2-player Classic or SlikStik_Quad.cfg for the 4-player version. This may not work if you have changed the defaults in RocketLauncher.

 

Also, first it may help to see if your controller works with MAME outside of HyperSpin/HyperLaunch (default keys-5 for coin, etc.). If it does, it probably indicates a change you did in RocketLaunchUI that is causing the conflict.
