thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Hi all, This is my first ever hyperspin setup that ive learnt as ive gone, many back and fourths with it but ive finally got all my systems and roms set up etc now im on the last part of my setup Frickin Xpadder.. im using arcade sticks with my HS and want to test out my systems but im really getting frustrated understanding the xpadder config. heres my problem... I load hyperspin and xpadder is working on the frontend lovely, then i load say zsnes for my snes games but for some reason xpadder shuts down quietly and zsnes wont reconise any buttons being pressed, when xpadder is closed zsnes will input joystick controls not keyboard controls, i open xpadder up and zsnes now reconises the keyboard keys assigned to my stick but why the hell is xpadder closing down, ive followed the rlauncher setup guide and added a znes emulater profile ...../Xpadder/Super Nintendo Entertainment System/znes/ P1 xpadder profile but when going from frontend to emulator xpadder simply goes to sleep, whats happening, what am i doing wrong. help me combat this anxious frustration!!
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 I just wanted to add that i am using thr same profile for all at the moment i have P1 and P2 profiles, i created all the folders manually in rocketlaunchers profile folder and simy copied and pasted the same profile in all folders , they show up in the rocketlauncher emulater keymapping section but when i click edit it opens xpadder and displays DUMMY profile not P1 Im guessing i need to do it the other way around and configure xpadder from within rocketlauncher, going to try that now and see if it works
gigapig Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Can I firstly ask why you're not setting your controls in the emulator instead of Xpadder? I only use it for computer systems. What do your arcade stick show up as?
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Hi gigapig, Im using a Xin-mo joystick to usb encoder, If i open any emulator and re do keys UP will display as JOY1up instead of keyboard UP input so when i launch it from HS -zsnes will load up and i can play using the joystick inputted codes But hell i need certain keyboard keys to exit zsnes back to hyperspin and so fourth. They show up as Xin-Mo Dual Arcade
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Ive gone through Rocketlauncher and set all the key profiles for each system but for some reason when i start HS, the front end key profile works but as soon as i load an emulator the key profiles do not load.
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Reset everything and started again, Ran xpadder and set up my Xin-mo Dual Arcade, Ran RL, Went to Global, Keymap, added RL front end, clicked on edit, Mapped out P1 which is on the right tab and P2 which is on the left tab, saved as P1RL.xpadderprofile and P2RL.xpadderprofile in the Hyperspin folder , did the same for ZSnes, created a new emulator profile, edit, preloaded P1,P2 then saved as P1Zsnes.xpadderprofile etc in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System folder BUT now ive noticed that when i click Test key mapper, only my P2 config works then i click edit again and the P2 profile as now changed to the same as P1 and its happening everytime i try to set a keymap to any profile. why is it loading a different profile for P2 everytime When i set up my 2player arcade cab i put the P1 stick on the P2 side and vice versa hence why i mapped P1 to the right tab technically the P2 tab, is that the root of my trouble?

Did you read the module notes regarding ZSnes and Exit? Also yo can set an exit emulator key in RLUI or a button combo from your controller. You can do that on a per system basis if using the latest version of RL. And your naming of the profiles "P1Zsnes.xpadderprofile" did you really rename them like that?

Thanks for letting me know about that, ill have a search for these module notes as i havnt read any, and yes i did name them like that, is that causing my problem?
gigapig Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Profiles are normally labeled "p1.xpadderprofile" and should be in a folder named after the system. If you have per game profiles they would go for example in ":\RocketLauncher\Profiles\Xpadder\Commodore 64\Raid over Moscow (USA)" Here are the notes Notes: ; Make sure you set quickexit to your Exit_Emulator_Key key while in ZSNES. ; If you want to use Esc as your quick exit key, open zsnesw.cfg with a text editor and find the lines below. ; If using fullscreen mode, it is suggest you turn fadeout off as it can not allow zsnes to close properly due to the method required to close zsnes. ; Set KeyQuickExit to 1, as shown below. You can't set the quick exit key to escape while in the emulator, because that's the exit key to configuring keys. ; ; Quit ZSNES / Load Menu / Reset Game / Panic Key ; KeyQuickExit=1 ; KeyQuickLoad=0 ; KeyQuickRst=0 ; KeyResetAll=42
Stryf Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I'm in the same boat as well. Haven't seen any video tutorials on two player controls for rocket launch out on youtube. It works with one controller but not two. Starting to think the free xpadder version is obsolete and the $9 version works with rocket launch. I was in the Taito type X system and decided to use a batch command to launch xpadder by itself like example. "xpadder.exe P1 P2 /M" <- Starts xpadder with Player 1 and Player 2 profiles simultaneously
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Thank you for that advice, Ive restarted and followed what you have said i have set up an emulator profile in rl, Zsnesw, mapped keys and saved as p1 and p2 then opened Zsnesw to config keys, then set up the keys for the frontend but im getting the same problem as before, whilst im on the frontend, xpadder is minimised in the taskbar and my keys are working in the frontend, i launch zsnes from within hs and as soon as i do, xpadder closes and is no longer in the taskbar so not one key ive set works. whilst xpadder is open, when config keys start will display as return - key ive set, without xpadder it dosplays J25 instead of return.
Stryf Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Thought zsnesw has control settings built in to work with joysticks.Try loading zsnesw outside of RL and HS, configure controls, close program, and test with RL again. I personally use snes9x though for the shaders.
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Hey Stryf, this is the thing, ive built a cab and ive got 2 windows reconised game controllers, without xpadder i can easily configure my joystick to zsnesw up will display J01 down will display J02 etc which is fine and works whilst running the emulator, if i want to exit Zsnesw i have to connect a keyboard to quit it, same thing when running HS, i launch snes and my controls as a joypad work fine but then i cant exit the emulator back to HS to pick another game etc same as fusion and mame etc although mame lets me choose the exit key so i can press a button and set it to j05 for example and go bl to hyperspin but i cant with others when i use xpadder and set up profiles, even just as a 1player profile, instead of going from The frontend profile to the actual snes profile like it should, it quits xpadder when zsnesw is launched rendering my kepmap useless. why on earth is it not staying open and launching the profile ive told it to in rl. Ive been at this since 11am and im close to calling it a day for today.
thaface Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Ive just tried to set 1 profile for all -Default- but again, works fine on the frontend but as soon as i launch a emulator xpadder closes.

Might be a good time to post your RocketLauncher log set to Troubleshooting. It might show up what is going on. EDIT: you could also try a different SNES emulator, not sure how those controllers work with RetroArch.
Yeuxkes Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 For what t's worth I never managed to get Xpadder working properly. I did manage to get it to switch profiles but it would always pop up above Hyperspin or the emulator and thus losing focus. Once I switched to Joytokey all these issues disappeared. Joytokey might be a bit more tedious to setup since it doesn't have that fancy gui which comes included with Xpadder but it's working 100% of the time for me.
gigapig Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Here are my settngs for xpadder which seem to be working OK. Remember to back up before you mess with it.
thaface Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 I thought i would update the post. i think the problems i was having was because my xpadder was a very old version? anyways i have changed to Joy2Key and everything as set up sweet, profiles load up when they should and i get no issues whatsoever now Thanks for all the help, i guess xpadder just isnt for everyone lol
