JoytoKey

Having a bit of an issue with JtK. I configured my FE profile and everything works as planned. I have joy to key to run on my startup folder with privileges. I know its running, the problem is that for some reason it will not work unless that specific profile is opened at the moment. (Example: when opening hyperspin my joystick will not control my wheel unless i select the FE profile and click the edit profile option, once I open it it works. I also do not get all my profiles listed as I have seen on some tutorials. (RocketLauncher, Hyperspin, Nintendo Entertainment System, etc) They only come up on the list when clicked and opened through the (Edit Selected Profile) option on RLUI.  Any idea why this would be? All my settings are configured on RL. JtK is updated. Thanks to any input.

Hey Spawk a little help I have followed your tutorial but got stuck with this error. I made sure to check none of the files within my folder are "read-only" Only one I could not take the attribute was the main folder. Even in command prompt it would not allow me to remove it. Pretty confused as I thought joy to key did not use registry entries

A couple other things when i enter a game and exit hyperspin looses focus and I can no longer control hyperspin. Also I just set up Nintendo Entertainment system was able to control hyperspin well once i entered the emulator what i set to be "Stat & Select" did not work. Instead it went to button 1 and 2 which was also my A and B. I figured I would start with NES being a simpler system when it comes to controls and I cant even do that one LOL

Hi there, don't worry, I'll get you sorted. Have patience as we diagnose this together though. I can tell by your errors that things are definitely not set up right.

First, regarding NES, all controls for inside the emulator (start select) should be set up inside the emulator. The profiles made in RL/Jtk only handle the exiting back to HS.

When you open jtk outside of RL/HS you should only have 1 profile named HyperSpin. This is only needed for the first time you run HS as RL is not loaded yet. All other profiles are made in RL including a "duplicate" HyperSpin profile that RL will load every time you exit an emulator.

The emulator profiles are not located in the same spot as:

HyperSpin

RocketLauncher

_default

The emulator profiles will be located under their own sections not under "global" in the left pane.

I suggest you go back to the beginning of the tutorial and make sure everything looks exactly like the pics.

Turn off everything including jtk. When you first start HS, is navigation good?

Yes upon the start of HyperSpin everything is good. Navigation is smooth. Once I enter emulation and then exit is where HS loses focus. How should RL profile be configured in Joytokey

OK does your RL look like this:

If you edit the Hyperspin profile in the bottom pane, it should have exactly the same controls as you set up earlier in the JTK HYPERSPIN Profile.

The RocketLauncher profile is only used for navigation while in "HyperPause". I have not set this up yet so mine is blank ATM.

If you want to set up an exit button for NES, you would select NES on the left pane (instead of global) and then edit the profile in the bottom pane.

Let me know if this screen is setup correctly...

Also there is no pic for it in the tutorial, but make sure this is done:

1.)  Open RocketLauncherUI and choose Global in the left pane -> General Settings tab -> Third Party tab

2.)  In KeyMapper area, define the path to JoyToKey executable in the JoyToKey Path box

So something weird I just notice don't know if this matters but I registered my JtK when I initially opened it just now since I started from scrap just to double check and be thorough, It registered fine and I went on with the steps. Then when I moved on to RocketLauncherUI, generated the default profile it opened up and that one was (unregistered) went back to my folder opened up joytokey manually and that one is registered. Would this be a problem?

There is an option in RL relating to jtk regestered... this is only useful if you plan on setting up a portable HS. So when you run it from someone else's pc the jtk profiles will still load like you were on your own pc.

Your problem definitely has to do with loading profiles after exiting an emulator so either RL doesn't know where to find jtk or it doesn't know that HYPERSPIN is the default frontend profile.

I won't be home for another 4 hours or so... working atm. Let me know if 2nd time through tutorial goes any better. Also if you have any suggestions on how to make the tutorial any easier, that's cool too!

Thanks Spawk.

So this is what I did, I went ahead and just entered my registration code every time something opened that was not registered no big deal. Well I was configuring all my keys and i would re-open everything and it was not saving apparently clicking save after everything to do makes it stick. I don't know why I didn't think of that. For some reason my exit button is not working and I configured it in the rocket launcher profile. I went back and checked the "Enable RocketLauncher Proilfe box under ThirdParty and I was able to escape but HS lost focus and I lost control of HS. I checked my system tray and joytokey is shutting down after I exit emu.

The RocketLauncher profile is only used while in hyperpause! It has nothing to do with exiting emus or re-loading the HyperSpin profile.

When you say you configured an exit key. Do you mean you use something other than "esc"?

What should I check to make sure my HS stays in focus?

No i have a button just for ESC. Everything I try under the emu will not work to make it escape.
Once I figure that out I can do the other 3 I have buttons for escape, pause, volume up, volume down.

I don't think it's a focus issue. If it was, merely clicking somewhere on screen with mouse would give focus back... sounds like it is not loading the HYPERSPIN profile at all.

Your pic clearly shows the jtk path is correct so it does know where it is! Strange that it is closing... the last person I helped was having exact opposite problem. Jtk would not close after exiting HS. Which caused issues next time he started HS.

RL references a prefix for frontend profiles but I believe that is just for xpadder. Pretty sure that spot is empty for me. Another 2hrs and I'll be able to check.

Ah i got it!! I accidentally set the "Frontend Profile" to false so hyperspin coud'nt see what to use upon exit.

Maybe adding that to the tutorial steps would help others just to make sure to select joytokey something on front end profile.

So far I have Nes, snes, gamecube, and n64 working. Pretty excited, once you get one set up the others are pretty simple. Hopefully it all plays nice and stays in focus for me.
