heykool69 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Hey guys. Just finished setting up Sega Dreamcast after watching Austin's video. But somehow i'd got a few different outcome from it. I'm running nullDC v1.0.5 1. After i run nullDC exe file, then click onto OPTIONS>Select Plugins. The Select Plugins screen doesn't come up. It'll just launch my last Dreamcast game that i'd played. 2. I was able to go onto the Maple>Port A>Config Keys and config my joystick buttons. But why does some games the joystick won't work, but the buttons work? 3. Is there a setting in Dreamcast where i can set the game to be not so pixelated? Like in Marvel vs Capcom, the characters is so pixelated. Don't know if that's normal cuz i know there's a setting in RL for Mame to smooth out the linear, but couldn't find it for Dreamcast. Thanks.
rastan Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 haven't played with dreamcast settings in a while... was a pain setting that system up... from what I remember as far as controls I just used Xpadder wit the keyboard settings of the emulator (NullDC)
heykool69 Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 Don't know if it matters, but i'm using JoyToKey mapper right now. It works for all my Mame and SNES games. Only in Dreamcast where some games wouldn't respond to my controls.
rastan Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I know I had a similar problem with Dreamcast... the controls were bugged out for a while... I can't remember what caused it or what the fix was. Dreamcast is one of the systems I don't play as much only thing I can remember doing was playing it outside of Hyperspin and getting it to work right then going back into Hyperspin and trying to figure out what was going wrong... I know that's not much help but hopefully someone else can help. maybe give Xpadder a try?

I'm using USB joystick controller. Thanks.
rastan Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I never bothered to use joy2key but I believe I have it.. I use a generic USB controller (a Playstation 2 type controller) with Xpadder. Outside of Hyperspin does your controller work with the emulator?

I'd tested out the same game inside RL....stick won't respond either. Only the buttons.
rastan Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 can you get the controls to work outside of both HS/RL? Run the emulator on it's own and try setting up the controls again... I know when I had problems with it.. I had to make sure the controls actually were working within the Emulator it'self... once I knew the controls actually worked in the Emulator... I could troubleshoot what was going on in RL/HS
rastan Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 hey.. strange thing.... I just tested out my Dreamcast (NullDC) and the controls were jacked up but for two reasons... 1st reason is I didn't have a Xpadder profile watching NullDC... 2nd reason... for some odd reason because I never had this problem before but the stick/dpad wouldn't work... I had the sticks setup to the keys in NullDC.. I forget which ones but they are letter keys....... I never set up the Dpad but the Dpad in NullDC is set to the cursor (left right up down) so I just set the Dpad (which is actually the left analog stick on my Xpadder profile) to use the cursor keys... no matter if I press the dpad or stick.. it will control the game. Maybe check to see if you have the cursor keys setup correctly? or the letter leys (you'll have to check in NullDC (Options/ Port A/ Config Keys for Player 1) it will show you the mapping. The analog = (I) UP, (J) LEFT, (L) RIGHT, (K) DOWN *** I Just checked inside my nullDC Best bet.. make sure your Joy to key is using those letters (which I believe are default in all versions) and or the cursor keys.
heykool69 Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Thanks Rastan for your input. I can't remember how i config the keys in NullDC. But something had happened to my HS before i read your response. No buttons worked on any emulators anymore. I don't know what my son or i did. All i did was transfering some Dreamcast CD Image files over. Then all of a sudden Mame nor any emulators recognize the joystick input or the keyboard keys anymore. Somehow my JoyToKey settings from RL disappeared. RL won't launch any games. It's very odd and weird. Don't know if it was a virus or what. I'm gonna wipe out my drive and start all over again That's gonna take me weeks again....especially with the holidays coming up. Dang it! I was so close in completing my arcade. Maybe this time i'll skip Sega Dreamcast and save myself the headaches

heykool69 Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 it may not be that serious... maybe check your settings again.. make sure everything in HyperHQ and RL are like they should be (especially since you can't launch any games) Yeah, i did. Checked both. HQ remains unchanged. But don't know enough of RL part. But i do notice JoyToKey had automatically disappeared from HQ & RL. I'd tried to put JoyToKey back, now kept popping up for no reason and some long error message. So i think it'll be better so start fresh so i don't get any hiccups in the future. I'm gonna try what you'd said on post #9 when i get to Dreamcast installation again. Thanks Rastan.
heykool69 Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 This arcade console i'm putting together is gonna be a Xmas present for my nephew. So i think i'll just put in Mame for now. Which will have plenty of games for him I was so close of completing it.

Hey Rastan. I reinstalled my system and emulators. It work. Had to played around the analog key inputs. And i also relay it to Dreamcast JoyToKey settings in RL to input the right key strokes. But somehow couldn't open the Plugins from NullDC. But hey, it works.....that's all that counts. Now i just gotta figure out how to make my mouse pointer disappear from the screen. Thanks.
heykool69 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 In RLUI select Dreamcast from the system list, click the Settings tab, and the Main Settings tab. In the Desktop group in the upper left of that tab set Hide Cursor to true. That should hide the mouse. Thanks, Yeah sometimes my sons would accidentally touch the mouse and it would appear and sometimes clicking it would switch them to desktop while their games is running in the background. Gosh, so many little nick-knacks that really needs to play with in RLUI. Thanks again.
rastan Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 hey quick question.... are you running Dreamcast in full screen? I have to run it with the bezel because I get full screen but can seen the damn emulator and I have everything set to hide

boomerps2 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Can't wait to ditch nullDC. Great compatibility but so friggin sensitive.

Styphelus Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 So I have to update Retroarch again? Come on! Tired of updating this thing! I'm assuming from this video that NullDC is still the emulator of choice, correct?
boomerps2 Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 So I have to update Retroarch again? Come on! Tired of updating this thing! rastan Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 tried RetroArch but the games I tries didn't work.... tried sonic adventure 2 and something else... screen just went black and never got to the boot. will try other games. I have a love hate relationship with RetroArch.... the only system I ever really used it for was Saturn and I don't even have Saturn in my Hyperspin anymore. Maybe I just never spent that much time with RetroArch.. the versions I had always turned me off with the way the interface looked lol.. but I noticed it got better.

I'll be honest, when I first tried retroarch I was turned off by it's complexity and it's ability to not want to play a damn thing until you had everything it wanted. I sat down one weekend with retroarch and said eff it, I'm going to figure this thing out even if it's going to suck the life out of my weekend, it will happen....and ohh boy it did. Now that I have an understanding of this beast of a program, I am absolutely in love with it. With it's online update features, core update features, auto configuring of controllers and my absolute favorite, it's ability to add any bezel you want to every system, I will never look back. I'm hooked.
