Hi Folks,

Not posted for a while but have been busy building a machine for a mate and I thought i'd share it with you.

So story goes like this....  A few years back I bought x2 old gambling machines (1st pic), which I then promply converted into a games machine for the kids (2nd pic)...  They have enjoyed many hours on this over the last year or so.

So only a few weeks back my mate was in my garage and asked what i was doing with the other machine and joked about me converting it for his kids (him really)....  So the build began...

Looking very nice so far well done, will you be putting a larger screen in there?

Thanks Rince, its not massive but I plan to leave the screen as is... Doesnt seem too small when your actually playing..  Plus a larger screen would require cutting out of the drop down moulded orange cover which is a no no at this stage....

Love it!.

Really like the creamsicle colors. The paint job looks great from those pics. What was your process?

Hi Metalzoic,

All the paint is with spray cans from B&Q (Hardware store here in UK).

Primer - Top coat, few coats, flatted - lacquer sprayed (few coats) - left for a few days, flatted then machine polished with car polisher.

The orange panels came up great, the cream still needs another polish here and there but will wait till fully assembled then re-polish all over.

What helped me this time is that I cut all the control panel pieces (orange panels) on my router so i had zero areas to filler and tidy up before paint (compared to my red my build).

I think the matt blue will look great once lacquered, hopefully in the next day...

p.s - all colours were picked by my mates misses (I think his attempt to get her on board) - this is my disclaimer if the cream and blue look terrible together.. :)

I like the two control panels - perhaps out of necessity, but it looks good.  I also like the fact that you have the tooling (or access to it) to cut the control panels out of metal.  Did that save time in the end?

Yes I didnt want to crowd the lower panel so this upper control did the trick nicely.

I have a cnc router in my garage and yes it saved loads of time as i designed then programmed it all off line then cut the sheet out with the created program.

Orange and white combo is sexy.

Yes I agree, was sceptical at first but once sprayed it looked great.

Great build man, glad you found a good home for the other one

yes me too.  This now gives me some space back as I really want a 4 player machine to keep all the kids happy (I have x4 boys) ...

Also they love turtles and I love Gauntlet both awesome 4 player games...

Very pleased overall with the results of a very ugly looking gambling machine.  Must admit the screen in the pics looks small but when standing in front of it it seems fine...
