jockinaus Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Ive downloaded Daphne for my new Hyperspin, and it prompts me for a dvd for Dragons Lair I and II,plus Space Ace. Assuming there's no way to get round this, I see DL is available on steam for $10. I was wondering if I could mount this in a virtual drive , and keep Daphne happy ? Gary
KlopjerO Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 the steam download will play as a pc game.. daphne checks for your dvd or ISO to check if your an owner of previous material. and will follow by downloading the next best thing for you from it's servers. | My themes / downloads | Get the MS-DOS Wheel sound pack | Get your MS-DOS game themes here | Get the MS-DOS wheel set here | My YouTube channel | WarcrafT - Lord of the clans |ZeroJay's Ultimate DooM archive
rastan Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 you need specific versions of Dragon's Lair DVD/Video for it to work... like the other person said it basically just checks to see if you own Dragon's Lair. I have the Dragon's Lair & Dragon's Lair 2 and Space Ace videos but for some reason I could never get the SPACE ACE to work but DL 1 & 2 worked fine with the videos I had. There is a workaround from what I've read on certain message boards and I believe it requires a older version of Daphne... but I will say this much.. what you're looking for to get DAPHNE working with Dragon's Lair can be found with a search on GOOGLE (as it is your friend) and that's all I can say on the matter.
rastan Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Oh, and if you want to buy the actual DVD... Daphne tells you which versions you will need...

rastan Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I meant there is a workaround for people that don't actually have the DVDs for the disk check.. I read that an older version of Daphne can be used to get around the disk check. as for space ace... I'm not sure why my videos won't work with the disk check but I may need to convert the videos to use them manually.
32assassin Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 the Space Ace DVD check is very flaky, you need specific versions of the DVD for it to work. You are not getting around the DVD check with older versions of Daphne. You are simply using the older version Videos with the older version of Daphne. Versions of Daphne that did not have the DVD check if you don't have the DVDs and you have the older version of the videos, you can still use the older version of the videos with the latest of version of Daphne. Provided that you manage the game manually

Versions of Daphne that did not have the DVD check Then I guess they meant a workaround (or another option) would be to use the older version with the older videos.... i guess they didn't make it clear but apparently it will get SPACE ACE working so I guess it's a workaround to get SPACE ACE. As for SPACE ACE DVD... yeah I think that's it.... I probably don't have the correct version.
