stevenhopfner Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I can go into Nestopia.exe and change my EXIT button from >esc< to >Joy 0 +9< It will save it if I run nestopia.exe again, or if I open up nestopia.xml. It shows that it is correct. I then open up Hyperspin (from there I went to check my nestopia.xml and it still good), and then I go and open up any NES rom, and as soon as the rom is open, it changes my nestopia.xml back to >esc< I can't figure this out. Changing arttributes on the file to read only, make a bunch of error codes when I am exiting a NES rom. custom DIY joystick and buttons with USB emulator. Working on MAME, SNES and Sega. Just not Nestopia for Exit?? I can play the games, just can't exit.
Styphelus Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Make it read only. My advice is to drop Nestopia and move to Retroarch. That's what 90% of us have done.
Spawk Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I use nestopia (retroarch doesn't impress me at all). Why change it from escape? You do not use a keymapper? Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
Styphelus Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Retroarch using the bnes balanced core is compatible with every single NES game. Nestopia is not. Plus once you setup once system in Retroarch, the rest are a piece of cake.
Spawk Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Yeah yeah, retroarch blows everything away... nes is a 30 year old system. It's processes have been well studied and documented. Most nes emulators are at or damn near 100 percent compatibility anyway. Do you happen to know of a title that doesn't work? Because it's played everything I ever threw at it flawlessly (admittedly I haven't played every game in the db). Anyway, leave the exit key on escape in nestopia and change your exit command in RLUI to what you want to use. RL will send the escape command to nestopia when you press it in game. Styphelus Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Can't remember off the top of my head but this topic was discussed here before and there were at least half a dozen. I do remember having issues with Skull and Crossbones. Lots of glitches and screen shaking. Also Ninja Gaiden because of the controller lag. Nestopia made jumping accurately very difficult. Lag with controls used to be an issue and one of the reasons I switched over. Having said that, I haven't used Nestopia in about 2 years. Not sure if later releases have fixed those problems.
stevenhopfner Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 I can control hyper spin and get into any game on NES and play any game with the arcadebuttons I chose. The problem arises when I want to quit that game and play another NES game. The button I chose for esc doesn't map and I have to use the ESC button on my keyboard. I dont want my keyboard visible in my arcade cabinet. Spawk...Can you give me more information on how to set it with RL? I was tryign to fiddle with it, but I coudlnt see where. I want to use (joy 0)+10 Thanks for the input. This is my first arcade build, and I am already planning another one.
Spawk Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Maybe the rlui exit command can only be mapped to keyboard presses??? I think you may need a keymapper for that. Your other emus map an exit to joystick buttons without using a keymapper? Personally I leave most emus on escape and then use joytokey to map to my desired button combo to escape. It's not exactly intuitive setting it up though so I wrote a tutorial on it. Find it in the tutorials section right here on site. Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
