My Build...Will it ever be done

Recommended Posts

I started this project months ago and it has consumed way too much of my time and money but I have enjoyed it.  I hope you all who have done it appreciate the effort and those who haven't maybe it will give you some ideas.

Going to post some pictures and then go back and discuss the process so may be a while between updates.

Left and Right Side Panels

I actually traced the outline on a large sheet of paper and took it to work and scanned it on our 36" scanner that we use for engineering drawings.

Then I traced it in photoshop using the path tool, which gave me an exact, to scale, image.

The cabinet was a copy of "Blades of Steel" that I had picked up cheap...

The monitor is awesome, metal bezel and touch.  Also purchased a custom stretch lcd for the digital marquee and will post details and pictures of that once it is installed.

PC was cheap ~$500.00CAD I got all the parts on sale.  What cost the most was drive storage, I ended up with 6TB of roms and counting.

Opinion only. If your wood is cut, stick with your plan. You need admin keys. Could "hide those on the front vertical face of your panel. A four-way joystick is a must on some games (in addition to your 8-way sticks). Could have one set of function buttons for trackball and spinner Since those will probably be the same anyway. None of these are an issue, just personal choice.

So, if your panel dimensions are set and artwork finalized, stick to your plan. You definitely have the real estate for those buttons.

Looks cool.

Thanks SimplyAustin, I must give you credit for assisting in the build since I watched all your videos that helped me set it up.  My next challenges are wiring everything up,  LEDBlinky (Tutorial Video Idea?) and hyper marquee.

I have lots of pictures and will post eventually with a video showing it all in action;  I will also try and write up a parts list and lessons learned.

Want to see what you do with that art and your coin door.

The guy (friend of my neighbor) I have doing the vinyl printing is going to use the type they wrap cars with for the front.  This type of vinyl will supposedly cover the door and it look seamless, at least that is what he says. Obviously, you will see the coin slots and key lock but not much I can do about that.

I have struggled with the design it is the hardest part to get right...

I am actually doing the CP in metal like the original.

Player 1 and 2 are actually 4/8 Way joysticks.

I kinda like the flight stick in the middle and it has 2 buttons (1 trigger, 1 top).

The program controls can be anything, so if you think I am missing something important for admin let me know. I appreciate the feedback because now is the time to make the changes.

I do have a keyboard drawer in the front under the panel as well but would prefer not to open it, and the monitor is touch so if I do miss something on the CP I can resort to that.

I might also put the audio control dials in the top left just need to figure out how to mount board vertically under the CP.

I didn't mean to suggest you add or subtract anything. What I meant was, going by the controls you had printed on your cp artwork, you "need" all that you had listed. And you have the space for them so stick with your plan.

I did miss that the middle 4way was also a flight stick.
