SkyHighGam3r Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I'm using RetroArch, Medafen PSX Core. I tried asking on their forums but haven't gotten any responses. So far it's only affecting 2 games. (I'm still building my library but I have quite a lot)Dino Crisis 2Spider-ManBut when you boot the game you can hear the videos and gameplay. (I was able to push X until I started a new game in Spider-man for example) however there is NO PICTURE. I tried downloading a couple different versions of Spider-Man, so I don't think it's the image... Unless I missed something.EVERY OTHER GAME I have works great though. They are all in bin/cue format. Please help!

FrankyRizzo Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 My Dino Crisis 2 works great. Bin/Cue format also. I can throw my game and core on dropbox for u to download.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 It's the first Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 boots great. Dino Crisis 1 does too.Well the fact it works well for you guys definitely means it's something on my end... There are a lot of settings I don't understand that I try not to play with too much. I did try switching from the GL video driver to d3d, but it just crashed. Though I found out that's cause d3d doesn't support the xmb menu. I know there's also something called "Threaded Video" But I have no idea what it is...Given that I tried a couple versions of Spider-Man I'm sure it's not the image either. Plus that's an odd issue for an image right? Just to not have video?I'm thinking it has to be some kind of setting... What video settings are you guys using?
TheMadHatter Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 have you tried downloading a copy of that game from a different source and checked if u have the same issue?

Im using retroarch 64 bit. Maybe the 32bit core has issues? I am running pretty basic settings with no filters.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 I tried a couple versions of Spider-Man from different sources, no change.I'm using the 64bit version of RetroArch. The core is Mednafen PSX.I turned off the shaders to make sure that wasn't interfering. I don't use any filters, but I'll have to double check the setting. Now that I think about it, there was an issue like this I had with the Reicast core... except it was doing it to every game. I flipped some switch and it completely solved it... I can't remember what the setting was.I'm not sure what the default settings are... I've setup so many systems on a per-core basis. Do you guys know what things like threaded video and video drivers are set to for your setups?
FrankyRizzo Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I recommend downloading another copy of retroarch. with default settings. throw your bios in and test again. If you still have an issue it is probably your image. If it works find. you know it is a setting issue.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Well I downloaded another copy of each game, and I'll be ****ed it worked this time... I even downloaded it from the first place I got it lol just to see if I was crazy!!! I don't know if something happened when I happened to transfer each of those to my external drive, or what... but it works.Sorry to send anyone out on a wild goose chase, I promise I tried multiple images of Spider-Man lol. I appreciate the assistance though. I wouldn't have tried that again if you guys hadn't suggested it.
SkyHighGam3r Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 You guys are not going to believe this but it's happening again! This time it's on SaGa Frontier (The Sequel works just fine) I downloaded 3 different copies and they all do the same thing. The weird thing is, Spider-Man and Dino Crisis 2 still work! I can't figure out what's doing this. The .Cue file is identical to my other games, I even copied and renamed one just to make sure... same effect, no video. I don't understand what's 'causing this problem. I put several other games in after going through the "SaGa" Series, and they all work too. I can't track down where this weird issue is coming from.
FrankyRizzo Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Copying the cues could possibly be your problem. Most of my ps1 games have multiple tracks and the cue points to them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SkyHighGam3r Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 Copying the cues could possibly be your problem. Most of my ps1 games have multiple tracks and the cue points to them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well 2 of the versions I had were single-track bins, and they came with a cue that was identical to other single track games than the filename and the name it pointed to inside. One of the copies I got was a CCD/IMG/...sub? file that I converted to bin/cue using Daemon Tools and IMGBurn (I do this with every multi-bin game I get and there's no issue) At best, I feel like the issue might be something related to the .bin file. What breaks my brain, is how this was the exact same thing happening with spider-man, yet the same copy randomly started working from the same site I originally got it from. Dino Crisis 2 as well. Those were both originally single bin/cue files. I took a look at their cue files and they match the kind I get with both single track copies of SaGa and the one I Get after converting the img file. Brain = Meltdown.
Awakened Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Do you have the Skip BIOS option turned on in core options? I think that's one of the games that crashes when it's on.
SkyHighGam3r Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Do you have the Skip BIOS option turned on in core options? I think that's one of the games that crashes when it's on. This 'sorta' fixed it, turning skip BIOS back off. (I only had it off to speed up the testing process) The main video is still completely black with sound though. Cross checked Spider-Man and Dino Crisis 2, no change, they still work great. I defragged my whole hard-drive too. Thinking maybe that was the issue... it wasn't. Hopefully this weird inexplicable issue is put to rest... I've still got a few dozen games to go through and see if I want to add them. If it doesn't happen again I'll be good to go. It's just so odd. I can't believe no one else is having this issue lol
