gec5741 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I wanted to setup retroarch because I read that it will run tons of systems. trying to setup NES and have roms working. However in the version I am/was using was from a video from simply Austin. It will run the games but I was trying to setup my keyboard as the input device. I could not get the keyboard to work. I could set input to retrokeyboard and go through the keybindings but my keyboard would just stop working and the program seemed to lock up. So biding my controls to the keyboard is not working. I went and downloaded the latest version of retroarch but I have no idea how to get it to work. I can't launch games through hyperspin with the new version. I get a message "could not find retroarch-core-options.cfg. Anyone help? I just want to for now play these games though hyperspin with the keyboard bound. I have a tankstick that emulates the keyboard so I wanted to use that for now.
gec5741 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Well I got the games to launch. I copied over the retroarch-core-options.cfg file from my older version. However when ever I got o map the keyboard commands all goes ok until I map the D down key. No matter what I map that to after I do it my keyboard stops working and I have to escape out. Frustrating to say the least. is it not possible to use a keyboard for the conrolls on this system??
progets Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 input_device = "Xarcade-to-Gamepad Device" input_driver = "udev" input_vendor_id = 43605 input_product_id = 257 input_b_btn = "3" input_y_btn = "0" input_select_btn = "8" input_start_btn = "9" input_up_axis = "-1" input_down_axis = "+1" input_left_axis = "-0" input_right_axis = "+0" input_a_btn = "4" input_x_btn = "1" input_l_btn = "2" input_r_btn = "5" input_l2_btn = "6" input_r2_btn = "7" Place the text above in a text file called "Xarcade-to-Gamepad Device.cfg". This file needs to be saved in the \RetroArch\autoconfig\ folder. The next time you run RetroArch it should use this configuration and your tankstick should work.
gec5741 Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 I added that file to the autoconifg file. Not sure it really did anything. I had the tankstick working for the most part. in retroarch config I just had to leave a and b mapped to x and z or it would break them and could not do anything. It works for the most part. Eventually I plan to get some usb joysticks for the NES setup. However one thing I can't figure out is how to change the escp key for exiting out of the game? I want to use the default donfig on the tank stick and the esc key isn't part of it. Retroarch is seriously way harder to configure input! Mame it's a breeze!
SkyHighGam3r Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 2 points I'd like to throw in.Simply austin's tutorial, while great, is a bit outdated concerning RetroArch. As is the file he provides. I highly recommend updating to the latest stable build. The other point, is that I've had 0 problems with input configurations since switching to Xpadder and setting all retroarch controls to the keyboard. As far as the exit key, that is in a seperate menu than the standard controls. It's where you can set save-state keys and such. I'd have to be looking at it to give you the name.
