RidicRick
I picked up a dedicated VS cab awhile back and finally decided to start the restore. Except I really didnt want to keep the VS wiring and have only 2-4 games at a time with a switcher. So I decided this cab will look completely restored to original, except it will have Hyperspin with ONLY the entire NES and VS Nintendo library. It started as a shitbox cabinet. Someone didn't take very good care of it and hacked the thing up, taking off the overhang onthe front and a ton of other problems with it. It is a dedicated VS cabinet so to make this perfect again I had to put in replacement pieces. I haven't worked with wood much in my life but I figured this cant be to complicated. Here is the design on what I want it to look like.
RidicRick
Here I am starting the wood work. Got a piece of wood from Menards for $5, it will be enough to do both sides. I set the wood up here and then drew with silver marker on what the sides should look like. After drawing and cutting I placed the pieces on the cabinet to make sure it looks correct. Here is what it looked like before. Nice hack job someone did. I glued the boards in place and then started the fun job of wood putty/filler. RidicRick
Here is the control panel all printed and almost ready. Still have to install the buttons. Once I sanded the new pieces in flush I cut my t-molding slots and then started the paint process. 3 coats of satin black. Then the next day I threw on the rest of the graphics. In the next day or so I will show you how I wired the computer up to the original monitor. Nintendo monitors are inverted for colors, so you have to you the nintendo invertor board, plus I used a VGA to CGA board. After that I will install the PC, wire up the controls and coin doors and I should be almost done.
RidicRick
I took 4 Nintendo monitors out of my cabs, put them in the lawn, sprayed them with powerful de-greaser all over every inch.. then hosed them off for a few minutes! lol Then let them sit in the sun for a few hours turning them side to side, front to back, until they are all dry. They look brand new now! Now they are ready for new cap kits. And before anyone starts asking.... YES they will be perfectly fine and water will NOT damage them. It can cause the aquadag to wash off of the back of the monitor. But its cheap to buy and just paint brush it back on. And I put little decals over the tube hole so water does not get in. Where did you get the nintendo gun and arcade wire protector? I am interested to see it all in action! Best of luck! Zoltar
RidicRick
The Nintendo gun came with another Nintendo cab I had that was Duck Hunt/Hogans Alley. The metal wire cover comes with it. I am going to gut it and install arcadeguns aimtrack gun inside.
SORHP
How did the vga to vga adapter work out? I had terrible choppiness with mine in my punchout cab with the original sanyo 20ezv I used the gonbes from paradise arcade Typo: vga to cga
RidicRick
The VGA to CGA worked great for me in the 20ez.. Not sure why you had choppyness Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk
HazzardActual
I've got a real noobish question about the VGA to CGA boards. ive used one before( replaced my neo geo cabs 29' crt with a 32 led ) but i was wondering if that did any sort of khz converting. Ive got a naomi cab with a 25 inch vga crt that i want to make into a HS cab and I was wondering if i can just go out of my PC vga to the converter and have it push out vga. would this just pass through? or would the converter make it the right frequency to show up correctly on the CRT
SORHP
If you have a 25" VGA monitor that has a vga input, you should be able to plug it straight in from your vga video card, if the frequency is off you can research soft15khz software, or use arcadevga from ultimarc... I had no luck with 2 vga to cga convertors, but the cga to vga convertors I've had good luck
RidicRick
Yeah the arcadevga from ultimarc works great.. that is the easiest route as long as your not playing something to graphic intensive, those cards are kinda wimpy.
HazzardActual
the website advertises that it can do sf4 with no issues, but i dont buy it. I heard something about it not playing the videos for crap unless they're in a certain format, with my luck probably the opposite format i have. Ive already got a really nice card in my arcade and it would be silly to downgrade. anyone wanna trade a fully working arcade for a decent sized shell?
