MAME cab conversion

***MORTAL ARCADE***

So I've started my MAME cab conversion. It started life as a Golden Tee Fore! 2005 dedicated cab. I picked it up 2 of them for free from an arcade dealer who was going to scrap them.

Not the one I picked up, but this is what the cab looks like. (mine was non-operational)

Gutted the interior

Cleaned the exterior (nicotine stains and dirt), must have come from a sports bar. Added a 24" LCD monitor.

Removed excess hardware from the kick plate.

Stripped and cleaned the CP top. Filled the existing holes with wood filler, then sanded.

Placed the template for the new CP buttons and joysticks.

I first drilled small pilot holes in the center of the buttons, then removed the template and drilled the buttons out using a 1 1/8" Forstner bit. I've used a hole saw and spade bits, and trust me, the Forstner bit is the BEST! Cuts through like butter and leaves a smooth hole.

Control panel. 1 joystick and 6 buttons for each player, player start and coin buttons above each player, 3" Happ trackball in center (using existing mounting plate from Golden Tee), 3 navigation buttons above trackball (ESC, Menu, Enter).

I'm debating on adding a spinner knob or not. Don't think it would get used that much. I will also be adding pinball flipper buttons to each side of the CP box and a ball launch button to the front of it. But that's as far as I've gotten so far. Let me know what you think, comments, suggestions.

Thanks!

Oh, I'm also trying to repair the CP top on the other cab as well. It was broken and chipped at a couple corners, so I'm trying to glue it back together, then use some wood filler to make it whole again. Hopefully I can reuse it the same way I'm doing the first one. The second cab it going to take a lot more work, as it is much dirtier and more banged up.

Fire,

Very nice! How much did he charge you and what was in the cabs??? Just curious. If I had mine to do over, I would have omitted the spinner and made a little more room by my flipper buttons to add nudge buttons. But, I just use the bottom right player 2 button to launch the ball. I can hit it easily hit it with my right thumb.

I anticipate more pics!!!

Thanks,

Ron

Well, I found out about HyperSpinHelper and how it can setup a 2nd screen for you. So I installed that and then added an extra monitor I had laying around to my Cab. So now it will display a marquee while you are surfing through HS and when you select a game, it will display that game's Logo/Graphic while you play! I'm also thinking of adding a 3rd screen in the white area between the 2 monitors that will display a picture of the controller for whatever console/arcade system you are playing. :)

Now that I've mounted another monitor on the front of the cab, I removed the monitor from the top. I also used the left over lexan and covered the openings on the front of the cab that where made when I removed the hardware. I also added the "Launch Ball" button to the front of the CP. It looks much cleaner now. I think I may add the Raiden graphic to the left of the coin door. All I need now is a graphic for the main monitor bezel and I'm still waiting on my new 3" happ trackball to arrive.
