Question to those out there. There original Tempest... Does anyone know how many times you had to rotate the spinner to get a full rotation out of the spaceship?

Thanks,

Ron

And why would one need such information? :) setting up so it's accurate?

I was just looking at buying a spinner this very day.

Gig,

Exactly. My spinner is way too fast for Tempest. One full revolution of the spinner moves the ship all the way around almost twice. Makes it hard to be accurate.

Thanks,

Ron

Are you a Discs of Tron fan? Do you have a few extra bucks and want to do things right? The only way to go:

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86&products_id=311

It even frees up some panel space for those who would otherwise have pushbuttons for left and right mouse clicks...

Comes pre-wired to activate Left mouse button when pressed and Right mouse button when pulled.

LOL. Sweet! Big boy toys! Are you planning on going through Andy? Or hack one up with an old ball mouse? ;)

That's my next step. I just installed AAE yesterday and noticed the tempest there spun a lot slower. Gonna check and see if that's accurate as well.

Thanks,

Ron

Edit: If you do put in a spinner, check out cabvol.exe. Allows you to hold a button and use your spinner to be a volume knob for your rig.

Yes I am a fan of anything with pixels, including DoT.

I was looking at a turbo twist 2, excuse my ignorance but what exactly does this one do? I have the mouse buttons on my CP for the trackball. Any info is appreciated.

Will Andy be in the way as I rush to buy it? Who's Andy. I was looking at Groovey Gear and Ultimarc, the former being slightly cheaper.

I have got some old hard drive parts in case I wanted to make my own. I will see what I have.

Andy is Ultimarc. I do like the little wheel tops you can get for the Turbo Twist 2. ;)

Looks like they are about the same cost. I have the SpinTrak from Ultimarc with the red top. Also picked up the large flywheel and the smaller black top with the flange (neither is being used at this time).

Thanks,

Ron

So I'd imagine that is adjustable within Mame? I'm asking in case I do order an early Christmas present. ;)

It is not in my possession yet. I do however own GGG's more modest model, the TurboTwist 2, and it works just fine in MAME. I had to dial the sensitivity waaaaaay down though. You should have seen Tron's arm in the spider level before I did. It looked like his arm was mounted to a tire balancer. :hahaha:

That said, I don't see any reason to think the TTHL wouldn't work too. Once I get my TTHL, I'll also purchase the energy cylinder and 7" steering wheel for the TT2 and turn it into a permanent steering wheel. Frankenpanel indeed.

Are you planning on going through Andy?

The main man at Ultimarc is Andy. Randy is the go-to guy for GGG. I have done business with each, and they are both friendly, helpful people. I can recommend either without hesitation.

That is the exact combo I was looking at. Works out about £20 less or it might be the same as I didn't add shipping to the Ultimarc order, I was assuming they were shipping from the UK.

The TT2 is just a spinner, without the push/pull capabilities of the TTHL. If you want to play DoT, and if you're not one hell of a contortionist, you'll probably need it. Don't forget the trigger stick with additional thumb button. It's a PITA to run properly.

Not sure if this is a good idea or not but here's my 2 orders. Not sure if the shipping is right at Ultimarc.

So would I be buying the right things being a Spinner Virgin? How would the different fly wheel benefit?

The cheapest shipping to here on Groovey is $25 and goes up to $50 for speedy delivery.

Gig,

A flywheel allows for a smoother feel and some momentum. The size of the flywheel depends on your desire. I use mine without a flywheel only because I didn't put it on the last time I tore appart my CP. Now, if Andy at Ultimarc could figure out a way to attach and detatch the flywheel from the top of the CP like his MagStik+.... ;)

Thanks,

Ron

If the flywheel doesn't spin independently of the knob (which would be crazy) couldn't you just add weight to the knob? Or buy a knob made of gold? :)

Nice! Different metals for different weight... Unfortunatley, I could only afford tin at this time. ;)

Are you planning on getting 2 spinners or are those just the options you are weighing?

Yes just the one, it's a single player CP. Those are my options so far, it's all down to price and how cool it looks. If only they had orange.

So, looks like the calibration is going to be trickey. In AAE, I cranked the sensitivity down to 1. Still too fast. So i'm going to have to adjust my mouse speed in control panel to compensate? Then my mouse moves really slow. Gonna try it in MAME next. See what adjustments there are there.

Thanks,

Ron

Interesting. All the poking around I have done in regards to AAE and polling have led me to believe that things are too slow for proper playability. I may have to take a look at this myself later.

In regards to multiple mice speed, I have run into this too. I have had a normal optical mouse and a Suzo/Happ trackball connected simultaneously. The mouse was fine, but the trackball crawled. I cranked up the sensitivity in Win, but then a fart in the general direction** of the mouse would move the cursor from one edge of the screen to the other. I have considered looking for a 3rd party app to set separate mice sensitivities, but that is way way down on the priority list.

** = Monty Python reference unintentional.

Kevin,

Right.... Unintentional.... ;) But well played.

Turns out, I don't see a way to adjust the sensitivity in MAME. In AAE there is a setting, but even at it's lowest, it's still too fast. Still researching...

Thanks,

Ron
