Sorn Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 My hyperspins main menu is configured so that it lists the consoles, then the games within each console. I would really like to clean my main menu up, and create a "Nintendo" "Sega" "Atari" etc menu item, and then in each menu I would like to place the consoles. This would take my menu down from 110-ish entries to maybe 10-15. It would be so, so, so much nicer to not have to go through all the endless entries to get to my favorite consoles. I've looked into the tutorials, I've seen how to setup genre's in the main menu, but this assumes games to be directly within the main menu item, like all the other items. I really want to have a main menu with brands, and then sub menu's with the consoles located there. I've spent the entire day searching for solutions for this but not found any. Do they exist? Thank you! EDIT - I've just found this thread which seems to answer my question but no one has responded with any solutions, or no one confirmed it working. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/15075-support-multi-sub-wheels-on-main-menu/ And the main dev with a hack-a-round with multiple HS instances here - http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/3295-faking-subwheels-of-subwheels-with-multiple-installs-of-hyperspin/ But seems overly complex. Any cleaner solutions? Thanks and sorry.
Metalzoic Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Maybe just running multiple versions of HyperSpin. Hyperspinception.
Sorn Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Maybe just running multiple versions of HyperSpin. Hyperspinception. Yes, I just edited the OP to include a link to the main dev discussing his hack to make it work this way. Actually, it seems that im blind. The french developer DID create a english tutorial/version for multi sub menu's! I could have swore the thread only had 2 pages but looking now there are more. I was just blind. Going to jump head first into this now
maabus Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Sorn, Knewlife's main menu changer will do what you need. It is a hack and not a true fix but it will get the job done for you. http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/15424-main-menu-changer/ it opens and closes hyperspin recreating the main menu each time it opens and closes. It takes a little bit to get the hang of, and set up, but once you do its great. I did find out that if you have a nintendo console menu, and a nintendo handheld menu you have to label your nintendo "system" something seperate like nintendoc and nintendoh. if you just have nintendo in each sub catagory and you make a change when setting up consoles it will change the nintendo setting in your handhelds. if you get stuck let me know and i can try to help you out as a newbie to another newbie. I have it setup and have the following Main menu arcade console handhelds computers misc when i click on console i get the following Nintendo Sega NEC Sony When i click on Nintendo i get the following NES SNES Famicom SuperSnes SuperFamicom

maabus Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I have attached the xml files in my main menu, and my ini files from settings. I'm assuming you can just copy them in to your settings folder and copy my xml files to main menu folder in databases, and everything would work. just make sure your install main menu changer. You would need to change the path to main menu changer in the settings.ini files. I have hyperspin installed on the F drive. My all file is a little more complete than Knewlife's sample. I believe i have all the systems labeled correctly, but you might want to go through and verify if you don't agree with what i have. I have not added all of the companies, to each system type yet, so you will need to add them yourself. just load the system type xml in hyperhq using mmchq and copy my example. I removed some of Knewlife's catagories from the catagorie xml as i do not sort by year or some of his other catagories. In the settings folder you will see a few duplicate ini files with the same company name followed by c or h. These are settings for each type of device. For example Nintendoc and Nintendoh. C is for console, and H is for handhelds. If you use just Nintendo, it will change the parameter and you will get the wrong type of system in one of your groups. Example: if in have just label the subwheel Nintendo, and edit my console wheel in HyperHQ and make the parameter manufacturer='Nintendo'_AND_genre='Consoles', then i load my handheld wheel and make the parameter manufacturer='Nintendo'_AND_genre='Handhelds', when i load hyperspin it will load the handheld systems in my console wheel because consoles and handhelds are pointing to the same Nintendo.ini. In your subwheel it will say Nintendoh or Nintendoc, but if we get company wheel images made this shouldnt be an issue. Catagories becomes your Main Menu xml when you start hyperspin. if you close hyperspin without exiting the program correctly, whatever you last screen was will be the main menu xml when you start hyperspin again, so make sure you escape out all the way when you are done. Make sure you use Knewlife's mmchq to launch hyperspinhq, and rocketlauncherui. you can load any of your xml files as your main menu with his program. I hope i didnt make it seem more complicated than it is. It's really not that hard to get going. Let me know if you need help with anything. mainmenuchanger.zip
maabus Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 But don't you have to rename them each time you want a different setup?
rastan Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 But don't you have to rename them each time you want a different setup? Yes, and while that isn't what most people are looking for as they just want to be able to switch menus within hyperspin... for people with huge hyperspin setups that just want to organize a few menus for specific systems or just for the moods they're in... it works perfect in my opinion. for me I have moods when I don't want to see a ton of systems and instead of just removing them from my hyperspin.. I can just setup different mainmenu.xml's and when I get the urge for those other systems I can just switch back to another xml. At this point I pretty much removed all the systems I don't want from my hyperspin so I'm good with just one mainmenu.xml but I still play around with it every now and then when I'm in the mood or just get bored. I even played around with a script to auto rename the xml's for me (of course this still has to be done every time I launch hyperspin)
