Oldgamer51 Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 So if anyone seen my post about the xp i brought well its givin me more fits then it was worth good thing i only paid 25 dollars for it, i would be hpaay if i could get ahold of the person that had the disc they use to set it up inititially but i assume pigs would rather fly. so i used a pirarated xp disc to because alot of the programs and what nto that came with pc was was not familiar to with me, that just made the pc mad so i decided to take the hard drive out after i zeroed it, the serial ata cables, and the cmos battery which was pretty new and the ram and get my vista running again. So i get everything back in the vista to include the original hard drive and placed the re installation disc in the tray (because we all know since vista no pc dont come with installation disc any more) and booted it it up. it was running through it paces asked for the seconc disc got done said done did a quick screen boot then a repair prompt came one telling me that the pc cant boot cause if if i had a music device or what nut was on the pc to take it off reboot and continue but i didnt have anything on the pc for the past 2 years. so i first went to bios and set everything back to default just in case that was a issue no dice. i reset and set back the the jumper next to the cmos to reset the motherboard no dice i let it do its thing at the memory scan over night no dice. im out of options. any ideas? it still wont go past that that repair prompt. thanks my learned gentlemen.
dark13 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 1- Backup the files putting the HD into another pc if you have to backup something (or use a live linux http://www.ubuntu-it.org/) 2- Zeroed again the HD and re-install the os. Check in the bios of the mobo AHCI settings, xp dont' have AHCI driver so it is better to set the thing in ide emulation mode (or load the driver while installing).About "original" and "pirated" windows: if the serial is legit, the OS is legit. You can use a legit serial installing from a "pirated" disk. Remember that a serial is tied to a specific version of windows (es you cannot use a "xp home" serial on "xp pro"). Oldgamer51 Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Mr. Dark13 my vista does not a os on the pc at all to back up. all the files for the vista is on the back up disc for re installation. as for the the xp im not sue what the serial # would work in this case cause the cpu was in a dimension 9300 which the specs are for a vista machine but who ever dumb downed that machine to so i wouldnt really trusted the serial # someone placed on the case. as far as my other my vista issue your telling me to zero HD again because of my attempt to re install? I have do idea what ACHI bios is. likes i said i have not a os going on this pc for awhile 2 years and i think its because of a issue i cant remember and i tried to re install then and gave up and brought me a emachine. do you have any any idea why its asking for a something thats not hooked up to the pc at all and havent been for 2 yrs. the last thing i had hhoed up to that pc was a external HD which did hold all my music. but the HD is currently is in my emachine i made it a second HD working fine and dandy. thanks
