Hey guys

I keep hearing about "cave" games and wondering what they are.

I have Mame 0.171 running fine in hyperspin but I'm wondering but about Naomi/capcom etc.

Are these arcade sets in the mame set already or should I be setting them up as a seperate system on my cab.

It's something I've never figured out how the other arcade roms were included in a mame set... Kinda like neo geo.

If anybody can provide some simple clarity that be awesome. I'm trying to round out my official "ARCADE" collections

Cave is just a developer (like Capcom or Konami etc...) that made a bunch of shooters. Years back they were removed from MAME and you had to run a Cave friendly version to play them, but since 149 (I think) they've just been in MAME like any other game. It's one of the manufacturers popular enough to get their own wheel is all.

The Capcom games & CPS 1 and 2 and 3(?) are also already in MAME. No need for a separate emulator although I believe they exist if you want.

Naomi, Atomiswave, Hikaru and... I believe one other don't work in MAME so you would use the DeMul emulator for those. Latest version is .7 something and instead of using the roms from MAME it uses it's own set of roms.

Sega Model 2 & 3 games also need their own emulators.

Taito Type X are arcade games that are essentially PC games and are setup using PCLauncher in RocketLauncher. They don't use an emulator, but there are 2 different launcher programs that you use to help get them working the first time. Each game is a new challenge to setup.

SO on my cab I have

-Modern Classics - My PC games, Steam games and any other 1-off games (Fix it Felix etc...) go here

-Arcade Classics - All MAME (minus mahjong, casino, prototype etc... that I filter out)

-Vector Games - I use the AAE update 2 emulator for these as I much prefer it to MAME, but you can just use MAME if you want.

-Laser Disc Classics - Daphne & Daphne singe (Time Gal & Ninja Hayate) on one wheel.

-Pinball Arcade - Wheel with the 65ish TPA pinball tables

-Ghouls'n Ghosts'n Goblins'n Gargoyles - Custom wheel set I made that showcases the GnG games across many multiple systems. Here if you want to see it: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/14349-creating-a-ghoulsn-ghostsn-goblins-wheel/

Manufacturer wheels are just extensions of MAME, that's all.

You use Dons Tools to create a new database from your MAME database. So plug in your MAME XML and have it spit out an XML with just Capcom for example.

Then you create a new system, that uses the MAME you already use, the MAME module you already use, the rom path you already use etc... and you have it look at the new database. That's basically it.

I removed all the classic wheels from my system.. they just made things messy in my opinion (i still have them on another mainmenu.xml for showing off but that's it) the most I did with mame was setup two mame wheels... one just has all the classic ARCADE games that everyone should know or remember... and the other wheel has the complete mame set (based on whatever XML I have at the time)

The only other mame based wheels I have are for CAVE, NEO GEO, and ZINC (I know some people use this with another emulator but mame works good enough for me) oh and I do I have a wheel for AAE but not using the emulator (mame works good enough for me)

You guys are hyperspin ninjas!!!

I love this front end its very customizable and well supported.

Your setups sound very sweet, what I've done with Mame over the years is just make a favorites list... Maybe I should make a classics wheel??

what I did was setup a favorites list and set it up as its own wheel so basically I'm using two MAME wheels but one set to my favorites (which is basically all the classic games people should remember from the Arcades) and the other wheel is just the normal MAME with everything showing.

Ahhhhh nice

How did you do that? I'm pretty good with HS/rl.

Is there a place on here where people upload their custom xml's?

basically added another system/wheel (as you would normally do for adding new systems to Hyperspin/RL) I named it Arcade Classics or something but the emulator is pointing to MAME obviously (setup as you would normally setup mame) the thing is once I added all the games I wanted to the favorites.. I went into the .ini file and changed favorites from FALSE to TRUE so only favorites show in HS.
