markronz Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Hello everyone- I am new to hyperspin. I am a former Mala user. I have a listing of games that used to be my "All Games" list from my Mala setup. I've converted my mala gamelist, mostly manually and by using some little vbs scripts I wrote to help, into a Hyperspin XML gamelist. I downloaded the MAME.XML .150 file from, I think the HyperSpin ftp. I assumed that this .XML would contain ALL MAME games within it, but that does not appear to be the case. However that does not appear to be the case. Is there a reason why some games are missing? There are around 200 games that were in my MALA "All Games" list that aren't in there. Some are obscure games, but some are versions of more popular games. For example, this is the Simpsons that appears to be missing: <game name="simpsn2p" index="" image=""> <description>The Simpsons (2 Players World, set 1)</description> <cloneof>simpsons</cloneof> <crc></crc> <manufacturer>Konami</manufacturer> <year></year> <genre>Fighter / 2.5D</genre> <rating></rating> <enabled>Yes</enabled> </game> Now, I should note that I am using MAME version .128 myself. Do the ROM names for MAME change between versions? For the Simpsons example, I did find an entry for it in the MAME.XML .150 file from the website, but it lists the game name as "simpsons2p" instead of "simpsn2p". So did the rom file name change between MAME .128 and .150? Other examples are no where in the MAME.XML file at all. For example these two: <game name="aircombu" index="" image=""> <description>Air Combat (US)</description> <cloneof>aircombj</cloneof> <crc></crc> <manufacturer>Namco</manufacturer> <year></year> <genre>Shooter / Flying 1st Person</genre> <rating></rating> <enabled>Yes</enabled> </game> <game name="airco22b" index="" image=""> <description>Air Combat 22 (Rev. ACS1 Ver.</description> <cloneof></cloneof> <crc></crc> <manufacturer>Namco</manufacturer> <year></year> <genre>Shooter / Flying 1st Person</genre> <rating></rating> <enabled>Yes</enabled> </game> they are in my own XML file that I made but not the MAME.XML .150 that I downloaded from the forum. Any idea what I am missing here? Let me know if you need any more info or examples. Thanks!
brolly Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Yeah rom names change between versions. If that comes as a surprise to you then you need to do a lot of reading about MAME
markronz Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 I haven't touched my MAME setup since I made my first arcade machine and used MALA. So I don't have a lot of experience upgrading my MAME, nor have I found many reasons to do so. I'm happy with the games that I have, and their performance. Is there anywhere I can find a Hyperspin MAME.XML file for MAME .128 then? Or somewhere I can see a listing of the name changes in the romfiles since then? What still confuses me, is why games are entirely missing. Yes, I get that rom file names change between MAME versions now, but why would games disappear entirely? Take my earlier examples of Air Combat and Air Combat 22. I don't see anything similarly named in the .150 MAME.XML file. So where did those games go? romfile renames surely explain some of them, like the Simpsons one, but what about the rest?
brolly Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Current names are aircomb and airco22b respectively. And they aren't in the XML because MAME has both games tagged as not working, our XMLs only include working games. 0.128 is pre-historic you won't find any XML for it. Also don't even try updating your MAME to .150 without updating your rom set as well or you'll get a lot of games not working, it's not as simple as renaming the zip files. Start reading on cmp and MAMERenSET so you can learn about how to update your MAME sets.
joe35car Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I agree with Brolly you have a set that is over 5 years old. Lots of good things have happened since then but just make sure you have a decent PC to run the newest MAME. It especially likes win7 64 bit. Or for that matter any 64bit windows. http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html

markronz Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Ok thanks for the help everyone. I think I am going to stay at 128 for the time being due to my computer I'm using. I am just going to look at the 200 or so "missing" games and handle them one at a time. next PC I'll handle getting all the new MAME stuff.
nofxbam Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I too am finding some games missing from the latest mame.xml: Daytona USA Daytona USA 2 Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Virtua Fighter 2 Virtua Fighter 3 Virtua Fighter 4 Do you guys manually enter these in or am I missing something?
joe35car Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I believe the reason they are missing is because the only include working games in the XML. In MAME these are marked not working.
hassenpheffer Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I'm also having an issue with missing games. The games in question are working and are running in the latest version of MAMEUI64 (.0154). Do I need to edit something in the MAME.ini or somewhere else? Thanks!
