for a simple mame wheel with just all the Arcade "classics" that every one loves and every arcade had them (ex: pacman, street fighter, commando, donkey kong, etc) you can always just add the games to your favorites and set the .ini (start on favorites) to true. that's what I did for one of my mame wheels.

hi rastan.. thanks for this.. i thought it would solve my problems.. however i did what you said and if i exit and go back into mame it only ever shows the favourites... Is there any way to make two Mame wheels.. once which is titled something like "all arcade games ever" and the other entitled "Arcade Classics" which has only a couple of hundred... ?

Phulshof : i deleted the sunset riders megadrive version from your xml and it dissapeared so seems like its solved the problem..

My "Clones worth having redux" thread might help with this. Should pop up in a search.

A lot of people do customize their XMLs like this simply using Dons Tools. You might grab it and try it yourself.

Pretty simple to remove/add whatever you want into your DB.

For example I start with Phulsofs no mahjong/adult/casino/utilities/electro etc... then I remove the rest of the Casino and Mahjong games, pull all the boardgames, remove all the tile/shogi/go games, remove all the bar games (megatouch and the other brands), pull out the shitty prototypes and bootlegs. Then add back in the good clones, special 2-player/4-player games, special versions of games, good bootlegs of games etc... to create one single XML exactly as I want.

EDIT: here's that thread: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/26943-list-of-mame-clones-worth-playing-redux/?hl=redux

that's it.. you need to setup multiple MAME wheels.

Just like you setup every other system.. you go in HyperHQ and add the system.. and then set it up in RL.

What you want to do is create a new system in HyperHQ.. name it whatever you want... "My Arcade" whatever.... but when it comes to selecting the emulator for this system you will use MAME as the emulator and point to your mame roms, and videos. You will have to copy the mame game wheels and themes if you want to use them for this (made up) new system.

For example I have three mame wheels.... MAME, Arcade Classics, and Penny Arcade. 1) Mame = basically everything using the no casino / majhog, etc. even the games I don't have wheels for. 2) Arcade classics (I manually removed a lot of crap from the mame XML) and set my HyperHQ settings to wheels only. 3) Penny Arcade = my favorite arcade games (all the classics.. pacman - street fighter, etc)

All of my wheels are set to parents only so that cuts out a lot of extra crap.

You definitely can set it up the way you want.. you just need to add multiple mame wheels... you will have to edit the .ini or whatever so RL knows that your new system using mame as the emulator.

If you want me to change my lists, please give me some examples of the type of games you don't want in there, and I'll see if I can modify the filter. :)

I personally think that your filters have been fine as is. You give us so many choices anyway. I think it best that they be more broadly inclusive instead of trying to chase the personal desires of a couple of users (no offense to anyone).

Then we (the individual users) can use your list to weed out those few games and personalize them as we see fit. Similar to what Metalzoic does with the purpose built utilities for that function.

It just seems easier for us to have to uncheck a box for a game (or couple of games) that we do not want, rather than have you generate a list from a global filter.

I hope what I am saying is clear and not offensive. I'm having to type fast before I have to go somewhere. Just seems like these are two different things and that games we want will not be included if the filters are tightened up too much.

No Phulshof, what you did for me works and is greatly appreciated. You have covered so many variations already so unless you charge people a few bob for your services I would leave it at that. Unless of course you like to keep your name up and visible in the community which in itself is a valid reason.

Thanks again Rastan for your help too.
