5thWolf Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I been trying to find a good CD-i emulator... only one I have found is http://www.cdiemu.org but it barely works. Anyone know of a better one? ~5thWolf~
dougan78 Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 They all barely work. Mame does cdi with chds or cdiemu. Look at what rl has for supported emulators. Emulation of this system sucks. Good luck.
phantasy Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I see both cdiemu and Mame/Mess support the chd format. NOTE: cdiemu added it in version 0.5.3 (by using MESS source code) but there is doublespeak about it working or not. Seemingly, unless you experiment, 0.5.2 is your choice WITHOUT chd support, or mame WITH chd support. With MAME your file sizes can be smaller, and you can possibly cut out another emulator. This may be essential if you plan to play on Linux or Android (I never tested cdiemu in wine, but it seems an extra layer of things that can go wrong for already a complicated experience). I plan the MAME + CHD route for the stated benefits... if there is some rare game that cdiemu can play AND I care about it, I can run it in Windows. I've learned from the Comprehensive List of Natively Supported Compression Formats thread how awesome CHD is for Dreamcast!!! With how poorly this system's emulation status is, I think it wise to compress them down in file size at least. I have chdman as a utility, but am using it for Dreamcast with a batch file. Anyone know how to use the utility for this system? I'd love to make a custom XML from the official (no rush) or filter for games that do work and are reasonable playable even if but a few work.
Guest Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 There is no good cdiemu as the mpeg video module hasn't been emulated yet and it won't likely be any time soon. As for making a working database - it might be better to keep these as forum threads with discussion. Having multiple databases around only causes confusion. As for an official db for this system - I've not long since finished updating it. It's in the databases sub forum, in the Philips CD-I thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
phantasy Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 True, and yours is the one I use. Not high on my to do list, but if I check compatibility and find the playable ones, I'll keep any custom filter/xml as a discussion piece only. If any testing was done, did you use MAME or cdiemu for the best testing /playing experience?
5thWolf Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Thats truely sad Hope a brave dev comes along and gets it going. Would be awesome! ~5thWolf~

I agree a BIG THUMBS down for this system. I thought it was pretty cool when it came out but it was a fortune to buy.
phantasy Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 If someone were to become adventurous with making a new CD-i emulator, perhaps there is a back door method... RetroGamer has a page on the AmigaCD32 (as a system, not as an emulator) here: http://www.retrogamer.net/profiles/hardware/amiga-cd32/ It is an interesting read, but one line jumped out at me. "Best of all, however, the back of the console featured a full expansion bay, which allowed for the attachment of an FMV module to play Video CDs (and even some of the Phillips CDi’s videos)" I know it only says 'videos,' and I never had one so know little of it. I wouldn't expect a Meka type emulator (Coleco/Sega) that would be a duo for CD32 AND CD-i, but perhaps this may be a start for some skilled genius.
