Daphne Issues With Cliff Hanger And Badlands, Could Use Help.

Daphne was one of the first emulators I dove into a little over 3 years ago when first getting into Hyperspin. Daphne isn't exactly the most advisable emulator for a new person to set up, but hindsight is 1900x1080 isn't it. Anyway, I have everything running just fine in Daphne Loader apart from Space Ace, which aggressively refuses to start no matter -which- set of mpegs I try, and Cliff Hanger, which Loader complains "lots of people ask about this one, there's problems (that are not described here), it's not being supported until some nebulous, undislosed time in the future.)

For Cliff, I am pondering either buying a whole new set of mpegs as part of a Daphne set which includes Space Ace, or biting the huge bullet and trying the MAME CHD for that and just removing it from my Daphne wheel. What utterly baffles me is Badlands..it runs perfectly in Daphne Loader, and starts in Hyperlaunch but immediately freezes after the rom loads. Naturally this is confusing since Daphne's log can't show me a problem I can identify since according to it, the game loaded as per normal.

Could really use some help here, please. I know the Daphne board may have more info on Cliff but I wanted to ask here first. As always, many thanks for any responses.

Cheers.

So you are still using hyperlaunch??? Every game in the set runs/plays fine for me using both the loader or rocketlauncher. Maybe upgrading will solve you problem?

As for mame, I don't think they run in mame at all! Mame is more concerned with preservation than playability so the chd is in the set but I don't think mame has any way of emulating it yet... Maybe things have changed recently?

I'd be happy to share my rocketlauncher configuration for any game if you need it.

Hi,

I am going to assume you are just using Daphne Loader just to test the game and not as the emulator in HL?

Launch Cliff in Daphne Loader and post your Daphne_log.txt here.

Could you please set your logging level to Troubleshooting, launch the game and post your HyperLaunch log?

Thanks,

Ron

Ok there is probably a better tutorial here somewhere but for quick reference here is a brief look at how I set up daphne in RL. Not even sure if Hyperlaunch has any of this stuff, it's been so long. Maybe this will be helpful to other readers or if the OP wishes to update.

1. Rompath should point to the framefiles (.txt extension). Now I should explain that these framefiles usually reside in the vldp folder along with the rest of each games files. I had issues with rocketlauncher finding these files for it's audit so I created a "framefile" folder and copied all txt files from each games folder into it. This should give you all green audit. The path has changed now though so you need to open each txt file and change the top line

from:

.\

to:

..\vldp\"Game Name"

All this may not be absolutely necessary. You may be able to just point the rompath to the vldp folder and set rom skipcheck or something. It won't audit green but RL will find the files. I am a bit of a stickler for that kind of stuff so I wanted my audits to work. The above was a very quick and effective solution.

2. From "Modules" click "Edit Global Module Settings".

p9o4eby.jpg

* Under "globalParams" after the last dash is "fastboot" (hidden)

* My system does not have opengl so I had to turn hwAccel off, you may or may not be able to leave this on true. For the record, these are not very graphically intensive games and I noticed no slowdown whatsoever with this off.

3. Click on the "Rom Settings" tab from same global module settings. For every single game, you must input all command line options. Here are some samples of the games you mentioned.

Space Ace:

O0Q8R42.jpg

Badlands:

Vp8IJHB.jpg

Cliffhanger:

GSBaqLn.jpg

This will allow rocketlauncher to pass the exact command line options needed for each game to run properly. Whatever you have configured in Daphne Loader is irrelevant.

It's been a while since I set this up, if anyone notices I missed anything, let me know.

I appreciate the responces, I've been busy the past day with DJing and only just got back here. Yes, I'm still using Hyperlaunch. I'm aware of the existence of Rocket but I hadn't researched it much yet so I wasn't sure if it was a direct upgrade of Hyper or a replacement for it, and if the latter, how much work I'd need to do to restore functionality for my systems.

It's quite late at the moment so I'm turning in soon, but I'll have that Daphne log to post tomorrow. To answer the other question, no, I don't try to make Hyperlaunch load Daphne Loader, I simply use the Daphne.exe for that. Astron, Bega, and both Dragon's Lairs work perfectly so my setup there is good.

I'll get back to you nice folks after I get some sleep, thanks very much.

Hi,

So, it does show an error:

"Could not open file : M:/Hyperspin/Emulators/Daphne/framefile/./mpeg/cliff/ch.m2v"

Either the framefile is the wrong one for that set of A/V files, you are missing some A/V files or your paths are wrong.

Here is mine for an example:

Framefile:

..\vldp_dl\Cliff_Hanger\

Using your framefile has gotten Cliff to run in Daphne Loader now, so many thanks for that.  Hyperspin won't launch it properly though, here's the pertinent lines from the log just so you haven't got to wade through the rest (it's all the same as when it loads properly, I'm pretty sure.)  Also I have no idea how to place the text-code box in my message in case I want to type first and then have the box, perhaps someone could direct me on that.

So apparently Hyperspin is trying to run a different set of instructions on where to find the m2v for Cliff and I'm not sure which settings ini that would be.  It's probably something simple and I'm not seeing it.  I'm closer than I was though, so thanks again for that framefile info.  Maybe if this can be made to work I can get Badlands too.  One step at a time though, I suppose.

Still trying to figure out why Hyperspin is telling Daphne to open cliff-r.m2v when clearly it's ch.m2v that I need.  But then, I'm still trying to figure out why I always thought that Hyper needs the rom directory pointed to the framefile folder in order to start, when it apparently needs vldp and vldp_dl folders instead.  Does Hyperspin even use the Daphne framefiles?

Hi,

To use the code tags when replying to a message, click the little icon right above where you are typing that has the <> signs.  It will open up a new window.  Just paste in there and hit OK.

Thanks,

Ron
