Hi, Ive got Win XP 32 SP2 with an Arcade VGA and Im running into an issue where Hyperspin crashes my PC after the Hyperspin intro vid, right when the game video tries to load. Doesnt matter what game you scroll to. See the vid for a better idea:

Ive read other peoples similar issues that have to do with installing flash, but this winXP SP2 wont install flash player. Apparently I would need SP3 and I dont want to update to SP3, for lots of reasons. I tried turning off video acceleration in Windows Media Player but that didnt help. Here is my Hyperspin log:

01:58:58 PM |  HyperSpin Started
01:58:58 PM |  Going FullScreen
01:58:58 PM |  Checking for updates
01:58:58 PM |  Update Check Complete
01:58:58 PM |  Startup program unavailable
01:58:58 PM |  Playing intro video
01:59:16 PM |  Error intializing joysticks
01:59:16 PM |  Menu Mode is multi
01:59:16 PM |  Loading Main Menu.xml
01:59:17 PM |  Main Menu.xml successfully loaded
01:59:17 PM |  Main Menu wheel loaded successfully

Not sure what other info you may need. Anyone else have Hyperspin running correctly in XP SP2? With Arcade VGA?

Hyperspin needs flash to work, Most of the custom animation inside themes are Flash Based.

if you remove ALL the Main Menu themes you might keep your PC from Crashing.

  But the Fact is;

if you do not want to install flash on your PC,  the only option you have is to look for another Front end.

edit

and you should detele all your Transition videos

go to

HyperSpin\Media\Main Menu\Video\Override Transitions

VIdeo Transition format  = FLV  = Flash Video

I don't know the answer to your specific question, but I've seen a bunch of people have trouble trying to use the Arcade VGA card.

Good luck figuring it out.

Thanks so much guys - I appreciate the advice! So if I upgrade to XP Service Pack 3 then will Hyperspin, MAME, and Arcade VGA still work? Cant remember if I read that SP3 will not work with one or more of those.

you have a very specific question regarding a 3rd party hardware.

I never read a post of anyone having a system broken by SP3  (MAME or Hyeperspin).  But then again their are not many people who are still running XP.

I think your best option is to go ask the developers/ or someone who is using Arcade VGA

if I was you,  I would install SP3 and Flash then see how everything works.

You can always re install windows XP with SP2 and move on from Hyperspin,  if You encounter more problems then solutions.
