Iwannafly Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Im hoping for some knowledge from you guys to help me on my mame setup. ive having trouble finding my answers.... I have set up hyperspin and many emulators but still need to get mame setup (building pedestal arcade) . I am going to be using a large hd tv (widescreen) and want to set up mame the best way possible for this . ive noticed mamegiufx but cant find much info and its no longer being developed . i running windows 64 bit. What are your recommendations for running widescreen tv mame setup? thank you very much for the help. i appologize if im missing the info i need but i truly have been searchi g and reading and still very unclear on my best option.
rastan Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I use mame on a 32inch tv. mame64.exe works for me.. the only issue i have is deciding which games I can enjoy with the TV in wide screen (full screen) and which games maintain better if the TV is left in Normal mode. some games just look bad stretched and some games are enjoyable even if they are stretched and some games were already wide screen anyways. the shaders help... so perhaps that's the kinda help you really need to be looking into I guess. get the lattest version of MAME and you should be fine.
Iwannafly Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 So what youre saying is just changing the aspect ration on the tv itself based on a particular game is enough? thats awesome. for some reason i thought it had to be more complicated than that! is there any particular shaders that i should look into and maybe where i could source them?

I guess just play around with glsl/hlsl and see what works for you.. not sure how much has changed with that but I do remember that people were sharing their own special configs which made the screen look really cool with the curves like actual arcade monitors used to have. As for mame.. I can't remember if mameui has other settings for resolution but using mame64.exe I can't really recall setting the resolution other than for certain games I would hit TAB and go into the video settings and switch resolutions of the game... also using bezels or not can make a difference. Maybe somebody else with more knowledge can add on but to my knowledge mame should be good to go... the most I can think of is at least having your tv/monitor resolution specs in the mame.ini
gigapig Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I personally would leave the games in the native aspect and use bezels to fill the gaps. You don't normally need to worry about setting a resolution as mame normally scales the games to fit your screen. And as the guys have mentioned use shades. GLSL (opengl) is easy to set up and has a nice curve to the screen or flat edges if you prefer. HLSL (directx) is also good but has more settings and a bit more of a performance hit if your running on a low powered rig. If you want to try it use the search to find so predefined settings, I think griffin and metalzoic did some. Finally the is BGFX which is similar to GLSL, it's new and gives you more options. Another thing to consider is having separate ini files for the different orientations instead of just the mame.in. I could or someone else may be able to post some for you to try.
Krakerman Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 bgfx hmmmm never messed with that one but do like glsl. Will have to play around with that one since you say it's similar to glsl.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
gigapig Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Forgot to mention that mameuifx development was picked up by someone else and is now called Arcade64. You can find builds of it in our downloads section. The last version I used had a driver error when starting Q-Bert.
Iwannafly Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 Thank you all so much for shedding some light in this gray area for me . i appreciate this help sooooo much! going to research the above information and do some testing !
rastan Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 hey by any chance is there a filtered mame.xml for all the games that have bezels. I like using bezels but sometimes the bezels steals too much screen real estate from the game but if I could have a wheel with just all the games with bezels that would be a smooth transition between games since they'll all have bezels and I wouldn't notice it as much or just wouldn't mind it as much.
dougan78 Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 If the bezels are the same names as the roms/wheels you can write a batch file to keep all of the wheels that match the bezels then filter your mame wheel with wheels only. Just an idea. Good luck.Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Do you have a bezel change key set and fulls creep bezel set to true? So if you want the game full screen you just press a button.

thomas3120 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I have a widescreen LED LG monitor in my cab. For all Horizontal games I unchecked 'keep aspect ration' so it fills the whole screen. (You don't have to go through each game and set...right click on the left window in MAME or right click 'Horizontal' and set properties accordingly. Most look pretty good to me... I leave the Vertical games alone, unless 'in-game' I can set it a bit wider (using tab). you can also add bezels to the vert games as others mentioned. t
