Looking for advice (as usual)

I had my HS set up and working great on my main PC but the time finally came to shift it all over to the PC I will be using in my cab...

It all went relatively well I guess...

On my main PC it was all installed on the G drive...so copied it to a drive lettered up as G Drive in my cab machine...anyway in the main it all works...

I was however running .150 Mame and decided to upgrade to .152 using Jumpstile's build of MameUIFX from the FTP.... Now it won't save hiscore data...

Am I missing something. I copied all the /hi folder the hiscore.dat etc but a) the existing scores don't show and B) new ones aren't saved.

The option for hiscores is checked in the UIFX interface...

Using 1943 as an example there was an existing 1943.hi file from my other machine....

Playing 1943 and registering a hi score does nothing, it's gone when I reload. I tried deleting the old 1943.hi file and playing again. Get a hi score, enter the initials, quit out and nothing. There is no new 1943.hi created?

Am I doing something daft? The build is supposed to have hiscore enabled...It's that long since I got it working originally I'm not sure if I'm forgetting a step?

Any help appreciated...

Did you create a dats folder in the Mame directory, and copy into it the history.dat and hiscore.dat?

You probably already have a "hi" folder also??

I have them already but they were copied over from the other PC rather than created on this one....

Going to try delete and create tonight see if that makes a difference....

Aha Gigapig, thanks for that! Checked my DATS folder and they weren't in there, they were loose in my MAME root (they worked there previously!), copied them into the Dats folder and it works fine. Much appreciated... Have they had to move in their recently? Can't work out why it worked before if not...

Nice one.

It may have changed around version 0.150

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm having this issue too.

I updated to jumpstiles' MAMEUIFX 0.155... Mame on its own saves the high scores... tested with pac-man and it created a /hi/pacman.hi file... but I can't get hyperspin to save scores (or recognize the existing .hi file) for the life of me.

I have the 4 DAT files in the /dats folder... could there be anything else I'm missing?!

What are you trying to do exactly? Do you want the scores to show in Hyperspin or in game? Hyperspin won't saves scores.

If you want certain scores to show in Hyperspin then you need the HiTo Text files in the root of the Hyperspin folder, And enable Hi Score in HyperHQ.

you want to compile your own mame with no nag & hi score!

this is how you do it!

download mingw extract to your c:\mingw on your hard drive. get it here> :http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/

you need Mame Compiler install it to your computer. get it here> http://www.headsoft.com.au/download/mame/MC64Setup.exe

you need no-nag hi score 0.155 difference get it here> http://mamestuff.lowtrucks.net/MKChamp/hi_155_2.txt

put hi_155_2.txt in your patches folder in mingw!.

download mame source code and extract it in [mingw] folder, name new folder [source] get source here> http://mamedev.org/downloader.php?file=releases/mame0155s.exe

if any differences to upgrade source can be placed in the patch folder then added to it using mame compiler!

once all is setup and installed [RUN MAME COMPILER]!

patch your diffrence in your source and compile!

also make sure you put a folder called hi in your mame folder or hi scores wont work!

you can also compile mess as well not sure if hi score works on that but no nag is there!

(Midlife crisis) some have hot rods, some have gold chains, I have arcade machine with hyperspin.

I'm just trying to get the hi-scores in-game. Nothing fancy and nothing with the frontend or hyperpause or anything like that. Seems to work just fine vie the MAMEFXUI GUI but no such luck via hyperspin/hyperlaunch.

Do I need to use hitotext to accomplish that?

nathan, do i need to bother compiling my own when others have already released builds with nonag/hiscore? shouldn't those just work?

For new versions of Mameuifx hi score support is built in, if you add it in when compiling you hi scores will get corrupted.

As oakleez mentioned you can get compiled version of all the different flavours of Mame in Jumpstiles ftp folder.

maybe as simple as a folder missing hi folder! within your mame or has been disabled in config!

Yeah I really can't figure it out. I know my MAME build is fine because it works fine when loading a ROM using the MAME GUI... but launching via hyperspin/hyperlaunch gets me nothing, even when a .hi file already exists in the /hi folder.

Do I need to add any settings within hyperspin/hyperlaunch? So frustrating!

I appreciate all the help guys.

Hyperspin should not have any impact on showing your Hi scores in game once Mame is running. There's no setting in HLHQ for Hi score unless it's added to a later module, Which I'm sure your up to date with.

Make sure you have the 4 or 5 dats in a dats folder and perhaps make sure this setting is checked.

The HiTO text files should also be in the module extensions folder, but I think that's more for HyperPause.

I'll triple-check everything but I'm pretty sure all of that is done... that's why it's so puzzling. Thanks again.

I figured it out... and yes, I'm an idiot. I had upgraded mame to 0.155 but still had my 0.152 folder in there and forgot to switch to the new executable in hyperlaunchHQ global settings. Derp. :aetsch:
