Test a do over? Download again and setup. Not sure if it requires a bios off hand but make sure you have that, and in the right spot. Not all games work so test a known working one or a different game. Good l uck

Is it still the recommended emu? I forget and can't check at work but I know w/e I'm using is working. Have you tried running as administrator?

I've been using Retroarch's 4DO core and it's been working like a charm with all those bells and whistles, aka shaders, bezels, etc.

BTW Avar, check this site one time per quarter, they always evaluate the best options for each system:

I said 4DO core, amazing how I get confused about both systems, OK, since you can't access it I'll put a screen-shot here:

Take that list with a grain of salt. Their #1 priority in the ratings is being open source and multi-platform, even if it's not the best. They also seem to choose the RA core over the standalone every time just because.

Yeah, these are their priority when evaluating the best, still I myself use Retroarch almost for everything, except PSP, GC, Wii and of course PS2.

3DO and Jaguar are really well emulated, I remember also some time ago some NEC systems needed a paid emulator, I tried NEC under Retroarch and they run perfectly fine.

Cores that need more work in my opinion, Reicast, Saturn is amazing but still too demanding.

Hey, no problem.

Note that 4DO core is for use with 3DO games.

virtualjaguar_libretro is the Jaguar core.

Alright thanks, seems like I read that you said to use the 4DO core and didn't notice you corrected yourself, is that what happened? Anyways, used RetroArch Core (Virtual Jaguar) and games run but sound is terrible and very slow, Could it be my system or that's the way the emulation is?

It could be a lot of factors, actually, but Virtual Jaguar isn't a demanding core, if I compare it to PSX or even worst, Saturn.

Are you using some sort of shader or video filter? If so, you could try disabling it and see if solves the slow down.

What games are you trying to run?

And finally, what are you CPU, GPU and RAM?

Thanks for quick reply, Im trying to run Alien vs Predator and Doom, tried some other games aswell, no filters or shader unless there enabled by default?, CPU = AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500 2.21 ghz, GPU = Nividia GeForce 7025/ Nividia nforce 630a, RAM = 3.00 GB 2.75GB Usable

Well, unless it's something else I bet we're just talking about the internal game's poor frame rate, Alien vs Predator is just slow as 20 internal fps if not less, so the only way to achieve a smoother game play would be to have a core over clock like we have for Mednafen PSX, if the CPU can handle it, Driver or Chrono Cross, for instance, which runs variably between 15 and 30 fps in the real hardware, this over clock option locks the FPS to 30, making the game really, really smoother. We don't have such option for other cores, maybe Mupen64 and nothing more. Nothing that they can't add in the future.

The above observation works only assuming you really reach the games 60 fps output, while internal fps works differently, so if you don't have sound cracks or something, you're OK, those games were too heavy for the first gen 3D consoles, 32X, Jaguar and 3DO all have bad internal fps rendering 3D games.

If this is what you're getting, so you're OK:

Well I get less FPS for these games, but the problem for me is sound, its a mess! Not sure if its a emulation problem or its just my computer.

I dont think either of those games has been that speed on my setup ever. Mines more of an unplayable slide show, at least in the past. 3.4 ghz 3rd gen i5, 8gb ram too.

@Warfare, have you checked in F1 menu, under settings/video, if you have threaded video ON? If it's off, turn it on and see if it makes the games run faster and the sound stops crackling.

I just checked using Retroarch and similar issues, crackling audio.

Tried with Threaded Video and the same result.

Seems to work fine using Virtual Jaguar however I cannot figure out the controls and cannot find the setup/config..

Are using Virtual Jaguar Emulator or the core for RetroArch?

Well im using the d3d display So, I couldn't find the settings but went in the config files and set it from false to true, did not help with audio "crackling" as @Bungles described it, still has that noise. Also, thanks for helping me, I am probably starting to sound annoying :)

:thanks:

I was using the Virtual Jaguar Emulator by default, but couldn't locate the controls/config.

So I tried using Retroarch and yeah got what you were describing.. Choppy performance and sound bugs.

The performance/sound in the Virtual Jaguar Emulator seemed to be fine however once again, couldn't find the start key.

Could not get Virtual Jaguar to work on my computer, So I thought RetroArch would be better.

Don't feel that way, it's OK to try to figure out a problem.

D3D? Is is the only video driver that is working for you?

Can you try this, downloading a new nightly Retroarch, rename your current folder to Retroarch1 and try running the game with the new Retroarch with the latest cores without changing any setting to see how it goes?
