xHyperSteve Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I am just about setup to my liking with Hyperspin. Still a lot to do but I got the hang of it. There was a learning curve, but I got a grip on it. I had to transtion from the old Hyperspin project torrent. It has taken about three days of continuous work and troubleshooting. And a lot of help from some friends here (Gigapig,Austin and rfancella). How was I able to get this beast setup, the keyword is: Patience. Here are a couple of pieces of advice from my experience: -Eat a snack before working with Hyperspin, low blood sugar will kill your work flow and frustrate you. -If you reach a problem you cannot solve, google your problem and add site:hyperspin-fe.com to your search -UPDATE EVERYTHING, don't leave one single file without an update, this includes: emulators, ahks, .ini databases, xmls, .exes make sure you have the latest. They all function together, copying old files into the new ones will create conflicts and errors. -Buy a Platinum Membership and Emumovies Membership for use of Hypersync. This is a complete time saver, it will update all of your frontend's pretty pictures and videos. WORTH EVERY LAST DIME. -Make sure all systems are properly named. Check your media folder in Hyperlanch hq for a folder called Icons to properly name each system. This takes time but it is worth it. -When communicating on Hyperspin Forums be as clear and detailed as possible, this will help other help you, and possibly help future users. Be ready to post log files when necessary. -Remember to view Hyperspin as a Hobby. Hobbies take time and effort but in the end you have a beautiful "Ship in a Bottle." This will reduce stress and frustration with setup. These are just some things I learned that helped me through the process. I hope it helps other users that are new. gigapig Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Excellent advice LSDGuy, I agree with all you have written, except don't take any LSD or other recreational drugs before setting up; your likely to wake up with your brain dipping off your desk.
xHyperSteve Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Hahaha, hallucinations definitely ruin your workflow! LSD are my initials lol Be sure to like! Also, subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more videos/HyperSteve https://twitter.com/HyperSteveShow
gigapig Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Lucy (or Luke for arguments sake) Sky Diamond, that's a very unusual name, you must have had some hippy parents. Hang on, California, it's all becoming clear.

Fromlostdays Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I like these kinds of posts because for a lot of people that "new to this" perspective is lost. That's why masters of the craft don't always make the best teachers. I remember looking up something and finding a thread about it and the answer to the problem came in the form of, "just modify the ahk script thusly" and I went to bed and cried myself to sleep. As you learn to start making assumptions about what other people know (or worse, you start thinking "they SHOULD know"). I just wish there was a way to make accessible the body of this kind of knowledge without block paragraphs. On the flip side: I do think because google is such an accessible resource that no one should feel entitled to handholding, and I completely understand that a lot of users try to get people to learn these things for themselves. I mean shit, just based off my hyperspin hobby I added a bunch of stuff to my actual resume. Walter:beerglass:
xHyperSteve Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Yeah I had to learn a lot about all these different file formats. Made a lot of mistakes that cost me hours of work. But you need some resilience and perseverance to get this system going. And you definitely need some masters who are willing to guide you without walking the path for you. Haha this is becoming oddly a life thing. Nah, just a fun hobby! Be sure to like! Also, subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more videos/HyperSteve https://twitter.com/HyperSteveShow
gigapig Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 When I joined back in 2009, I installed Hyperspin, thought it looked great, read some How to's and then got completely confused and walked away and went back to Mameui. Thankfully things had changed a lot, and you've got to "want it", force yourself to learn. I think for me at least, that's one of the addictive things, learning new stuff, not giving up until it bloody well works (at least until I reboot); and a great bunch of geeks.
connorsdad Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 It's been roughly 12 months since I got into hyperspin/cab building and I've learned a helluva lot thanks to this forum/hobby. 12 months ago I hadn't even heard of ahk and yet now I'm loving what it can do (Still an ahk noob though) As for my hyperspin installation, it took me 9 long months to get somewhere near finished, and that doesn't include every system. Even now I'm still tinkering and altering things to suit my personal setup Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
xHyperSteve Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Yeah it's on going project. I have all the systems I grew up with set. Still working on the others for historical/archival purposes/hobby fun purposes. My fiancé came home and saw me staring at an ahk, she thought I was reading some heavy computer code. She thought I was like a code wiz for a second. I told her its for my hyperspin game system. She remarked that I spend more time tinkering than actually playing lol. Be sure to like!
