Question for anyone with a using an I-Pac from Ultimarc. Do you still need to use joytokey/xpadder for mapping to emulators or do you map the emulators to the J-pac key settings?. asking because I'm using a xin-mo and having nothing but trouble with jtk and xpadder, so if I can bypass those and any other key mapper then my life will be full of rainbows

You just map emulators to keys. Each switch press registers as a key press. The only thing you need to worry about it matching up key settings across games/emulators :)

their are pros and cons to using an

keyboard encoder - I-pac

Joystick encoder --> Xin-mo

Ipac

Pros,

Direct support for Hyperspin and most  emulators

Cons,

you will  need to map all your emulators to a UNIFIED keyboard settings.

every emulator you use will have to be re-maped to use the keys defined by your Ipac.

(some emulators don't support service keys such as Ctrl,Shift;  this could be a problem since the Ipac is set to use the MAME default keys)

You can avoid this by loading different Ipac profiles,  but this is practically doing the same as loading a different joy2key or Xpadder profile.

Other  systems such as Tayto Type X games and a few PC games. don't seem to play nice with keyboard encoders.

Xin-mo

Pros

Most modern emulators have joystick support,  their is no need for you to use joy2key or xpadder.  Just map your joystick directly to the emulator.

Cons

Although Hyperspin has joystick support,  its flaky at best..  You will need a 3rd party ap to map your joystick to the Hyperspin menu.

the good news is that someone made an AHK script  to do this for you.  its mapped to a 360 controller but you can remap all the buttons.

I have a Joystick encoder similar to the Xin-mo and I'm no longer using joy2key or Xpadder.

I'm only using the startup script to control the Hyperspin Menu.

@32assassin, could you possibly post what you changed in the startup script that allowed you to use your joy and buttons? I have no idea what I'm looking at.

Edit: I've got this startup script to work, but it only works with my p2 joystick and buttons.

Edit2: So, got 2 joysticks and have to tell this script I have 4, strange but now both sticks control HS, good enough for me.
