PERK1N5 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I am pretty new to Hyperspin so I am most likely making a simple mistake. I am trying to scan my MAME rom's with Don's Hyperspin List Generator. I am using MAME xml from Hyperlist and my romset is 0.177 When Don's tools finish scanning, it says "Showing 9772 out of 9772 games" the 'game' column says No for every entry, but Yes for almost every entry in the 'wheel' 'theme' and 'video' columns. I used Hypersync to get all the wheel art, themes and video snaps. Any idea why Don's tools won't recognize my MAME roms? The games all play perfectly fine in Hyperspin when I load them. The reason I wanted to use the tool is to create a xml list of games that only require up to two buttons as that is the current configuration of the control panel on my cabinet.
PERK1N5 Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 Update, I have now also tried using both a split and non-merged set of 0.194 MAME roms. Don's tools still does not recognize any games. The games all play just fine though, I am at a loss.

wesfranks Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Two suggestions- Use the version of Don's that Mr. Sparkle posted to the ROMS/Database/Renaming Tools Section of Downloads. It doesn't incorporate the last change by MAME devs that split references to device controls and buttons about 5 months ago, so that doesn't work 100%. It did fix an earlier change to internal references from "game name" to "machine name" generated from the mamelist.xml. This internal reference change allowed Don's to see and list MAME games that the MAME executable uses. That may be part of your problem. Also, since Don's HyperSpin Tools predates the older HyperLauncher, now RocketLauncher, you have to list both the current MAME executable and rom location in HyperHQ. Otherwise Don's doesn't work correctly aka can't find your games, can't find the MAME executable to generate the mamelist.xml so it continues forever/freezes/ or just crashes, etc. If you just scan your roms, the Hyperspin xml you create, won't have any information like publisher, genre, etc. If you download and use one of Phulshof's MAME lists as a "HyperSpin Source XML" it will contain and fill in the information in your created list. It will also have the advantage of pre-excluding broad catagories of games that you don't want- clones, mature, casino, quiz, etc. Just choose the one you want. When Don's does see your games (games = yes or games = no) you have to select the games you want to include and change to an Output List, before finally exporting to... (you guessed it) an Output List. Rename the xml to your system name (usually MAME) and move to the HyperSpin Database folder.
PERK1N5 Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 Thank you for taking the time to respond to my issue! I will attempt to follow all of your suggestions and hopefully I will end up with a positive result!
fightnightfz Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 Having the same problem. I have the 0.195 ROM set for MAME and not getting any of them to show up. I'll try the above suggestion, but n00b question here: What area does the tool actually "scan"? A particular folder, file, etc? Ex. I have my roms in the HyperSpin/Roms/MAME folder, does Don's list generator scan a different folder?
