bpjacobsen Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 I get black display for all atari 2600 games. Mame works fine. I named all flv files the same as the rom names and pointed to the proper video path in hyper HQ for the atari wheel. Is there something else I"M forgetting?
bpjacobsen Posted March 28, 2018 Author Posted March 28, 2018 so, any suggestions as to why only the atari 2600 videos are not showing in hyperspin? NES and mame work fine. This is driving me nuts!
Kondorito Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Hey! Thinking out loud: - From where you got those vids? - Have you tried downloading the set in MP4 instead? - You could try installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, as maybe is a codec problem with that bulk of atari videos you have - If you play the vids outside of HS with the regular media player (not VLC or any other) do they play ok?
bpjacobsen Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 I created these myself using a free video capture download. same as my mame and nes videos which work fine in hyperspin. I can play this videos fine with WMP. Just odd that it's only the atari ones not working.
Kondorito Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Grab the smaller one in size that does not work, and attach it here. I will test it on my end.
bpjacobsen Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 sorry, I might have accidentally attached it to a new thread. but I attached it here. not sure what the heck I did. thanks
Kondorito Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 No problem. I tested it and I am able to display it correctly here. Try one more thing, grab this video you shared with me, rename it to Atari 2600.flv for example, and place it in the Media/Main Menu/Video/ folder (you can rename the original Atari 2600 video in the mean time you test). Check if you are able to see the video in the main menu as the Atari video. Let me know.
bpjacobsen Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 still not working for me. I don't get why mame and nes both work fine but this one is fighting me for some reason.
Kondorito Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Strange, as your vid worked fine in my set. I think the easiest thing to do at this point, is to get another video pack (preferably in mp4).
bpjacobsen Posted March 30, 2018 Author Posted March 30, 2018 but I thought the vids had to be flv? When I first did the mame videos, I did them in mp4 but they did not work. when I switched them to flv, they worked. I can certainly try one to see what happens. thanks for all of your input,
Kondorito Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Glad to be of help. Let me know if they dont work.
bpjacobsen Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 no dice. I tried an mp4 on breakout and same issue. question, I assume the video file name should match exactly to the rom name correct? At least that's what I did for Mame and nes and those work fine. Can you please provide a check list of what all I need to confirm for setup? Wonder if I missed something stupid?
Spawk Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 but I thought the vids had to be flv? When I first did the mame videos, I did them in mp4 but they did not work. when I switched them to flv, they worked. I can certainly try one to see what happens. thanks for all of your input,File format is not the issue, EmuMovies used to be flv... they have since redone most sets in mp4.There are some other limitations though... I dont know what they are exactly but things like too high bitrate?... reference frames? Number of passes? HS will not like these no matter the format.Hopefully someone else can chime in with specifics.Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk
Kondorito Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Check that the video filenames are exactly (case sensitive) as the database entries in the Atari 2600.xml, and that the videos are in the Media/Atari 2600/Video/ folder (assuming you have set "Atari 2600" as the system name everywhere (case sensitive). The last thing you can try, is to rename and paste one non working atari video in the place of a working mame/nes one, and see if it displays in that system. If it does, then something sonewhere on the Atari paths configured is not ok. I do not believe the vids are bad, as I tested the one you uploaded in my HS and worked fine.
bpjacobsen Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 I copied the breakout atari vid and renamed it Defender in the mame vid folder. it displayed fine under mame. The full name shown in the DB file is Breakout - Breakaway IV (1978) (Atari) [o1] and that is exactly what I named it. that full string is what is between the quotes under gamename. Here is the full entry from the xml: <game name="Breakout - Breakaway IV (1978) (Atari) [o1]" index="true" image="b"> <description>Breakout - Breakaway IV (1978) (Atari) [o1]</description> <cloneof></cloneof> <crc></crc> <manufacturer></manufacturer> <year></year> <genre></genre> <rating></rating> <enabled>Yes</enabled>
bpjacobsen Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 Man oh man, this is just too much! Makes zero sense! So I decided to update the xml DB file and the rom names for the atari 2600 games. and renamed the videos to match the game names. Also went to HQ and re-entered the vid path to be sure. The games still play fine from hyperspin/RL but no videos. This is driving me nuts! The video plays fine in MAME if I rename one of them and place in the mame folder with the name of one of the mame games. Here is an updated sample of my xml: <game name="Breakout" index="true" image="b"> <description>Breakout - Breakaway IV (1978) (Atari) [o1]</description> <cloneof></cloneof> <crc></crc> <manufacturer></manufacturer> <year></year> <genre></genre> <rating></rating> <enabled>Yes</enabled> </game> I"m attaching a screenshot that shows the roms, the hq vid path and the list of videos. Anything else I am missing?
Spawk Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Hmmm... everything sure looks right, maybe its the theme you are using?Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk
Kondorito Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Good one @Spawk, it could be the theme. It might not have a video section established even though there is a video frame in it. Try overriding the atari default theme with the mame or nes default themes and test.
bpjacobsen Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 Sorry, theme? what theme? Can you expand on this. Still new to this. Please tell me exactly what I need to do and where. thanks
Spawk Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Sorry, theme? what theme? Can you expand on this. Still new to this. Please tell me exactly what I need to do and where. thanksDamn... not the answer i was hoping for, lol. If you are just using the default theme, chances are its ok.Every system has a main menu theme and a system theme (or individual game themes).Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk
Kondorito Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Will try to explain the best I can: In HS you can have themes/visuals for the main menu, and inside each system for displaying the games. You can have a default theme for all the system games, or a theme different per game. Inside the Media/Atari 2600/ folder, you should have a themes folder. Inside you can have a default.zip file and/or zip files named like the games. HS will read that folder and look for game themes and if none, the default theme. The themes are the ones in charge of showing the art, video and position of those. You can try checking that folder and if there is a default.zip theme, rename it to anything, copy one of the themes from MAME or NES and paste it there as default.zip or nameofthegame.zip.
bpjacobsen Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 Oh crap that was it! There was no theme in the atari 2600 folder. I copied the default from mame and now the videos are working! Sheesh! I knew it was right under my nose the whole time. Just needed someone to point it out. lol. Thanks so much for everyone's help. Now I just need to figure out what I want to add for the atari 2600 menu video.
Kondorito Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Glad you got it working You can check the DL section in here or Emumovies and see if there is stuff for main menu system videos.
