triton2k3 Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Is anyone running joytokey on windows 10? I am getting the joytokey.ini error when trying to launch a game in hyperspin. I have set everything up based on the tutorial. I have cleared the registry file. I have tried to make it not read only, but windows 10 does not allow that. From what I understand the joytokey.ini file is generated by the first save in joytokey but I think because it won’t come out of read only that file isn’t generating? Curious if I’m the only one trying to get this to work in windows 10. Windows 10 is garbage, I lost hyperspin, couldn’t open Firefox, and now I can’t open the settings app. Looking at maybe my 2nd reformat this week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Spawk Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I am still win7 here but i know there are some minor issues with 10. Most of which has been addressed. A good place to start is running almost everything "as administrator". The OS just doesnt like to give programs the permission to write to files.Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk
artman999999 Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Been running J2K since Win8 with no issues. Upgraded to Win10 for the speed increase and never looked back. But the PC running my cab doesn't do anything else, and there's no other software installed on it that isn't directly for the cab.
bigdic Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I had the same problem try what is mentioned on this page. And make sure you have the joy2key default (profile1) setup with your keystrokes as well as once I got the ini sorted it seems to revert to this option instead of the one I originally setup. This all worked for my in the end, good luck. Edit. Just noticed you may have already done the above, Though I managed to change to read only?(win10pro) but had no effect.

How did you change the read only? I have windows 10 pro also. I have tried running admin and have removed the registry files. I will try removing everything except the exe and then deleting the registry files tonight. Every time I tried to reinstall I extracted a new folder I think. Really getting tired of Windows 10 but I am not looking to buy another OS.
bigdic Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Just right clicked on the main joy2key folder and also the .Exe just to be sure and went to properties and unchecked the read only box there. Also not sure if I opened registry and copied the ini file from there and pasted it in the joy2key folder , only did it last week but can't bloody remember...

Windows 10 takes away all of your freedom.I’ll give this a shot though tonight.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
bigdic Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Never had that issue. How about trying this.. https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/windows-10-read-only-problem-has-a-solution/
triton2k3 Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 Somehow something worked last night. I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 10. Extracted the file and deleted everything but the exe. Went into Regedit (there was no joytokey entries) and ran the exe at the same time. Saved profile 1 and just left everything open for like 5 minutes. When I came back to it the .ini was there. Thanks for the help.
