Wheel Art Layering Order

Recommended Posts

Greetings my good folks.

Sorry if this is a bit of a noob question. Been building a few themes for myself (some I will submit for officials in the future). I had this idea for a special theme that would require the wheel art to be matched as an overlay exactly over a custom graphic layer. Problem is Artwork1,2,3,4 all appears ordered OVER the said wheel art. I guess I could use the background directly but i'd rather avoid that for the sake of convenience, and mobility, and also because screen size variation would require users to painfully adjust that manually.

Anyone have any idea if one can alter the layering order for the wheel, or something similar?

Cheers

Looked into this myself recently, couldn't find a way to do it.

Go Habs go!

^-- HAHA poor Bruins took a beating, huh? ;)

Okay, so, if I exploited the background for that purpose, that probably means I would need to release the theme in various screen sizes, or provide a .PSD so people can ajust it... Inconvenient but I'm guessing it may be worth it, if the idea is good. Thanks for the answer, Zerojay.

Cheers

There's a video overlay that you might be able to take advantage of. I think craiganderson's MSX2 theme has the wheel vertically in the middle of the screen and a video overlay. Take a look at that and maybe you can figure something out.

Oooooooh see, that's the kind of brilliant answer I was expecting from the forums! Is it possible that I can still get a video working on another place in the theme, even if I exploit the video overlay for that purpose? Yesterday I found out about x and y offsets for the overlay, si I guess I could still play with that while retaining a zone for the said video, which i could frame with the default regular video outlines?

Thanks bud, that's clever. I'm gonna mess with that!

Aw man, sadly, it doesn't work. I could probably cut an alpha where I need it but too messy. The wheel art still appears under the Video Overlay later. Oh well, at least I tried. And thanks for your help, zerojay, much appreciated.

heres the referenced theme

just fyi

i was trying to figure out a theme that could be used for systems that dont have wheel art

and try to hide that fact by incorporating the wheel text into the theme

but also works for the games that have themes (ie the wheel gets hidden)

i think its kinda cool

never really got much attention......lol

haha it's kind of imaginative anyways. probably got less attention because less generic and more specific, but i like it.

Sadly it won't work for what I wanted to do. Shortly, I wanted to display an old 2600 console, straight up, and use the awesome cart top wheel set to overlay it exactly over the slot, as if you were actually inserting carts in the machine. I guess it's still doable with the background but it probably wouldn't scale up or down very well on different screen sizes.

cheers!

Holy crap, that's awesome! Did you make that one? Know where i could find it, for inspiration? The wheel art still seems to be under the other layers, but this is so very cool.

Cheers!

Yeah thanks, I had read all of those design howtos already, but it fails to mention where the wheel art is located through the standard layers ;) Now I know it's exactly between the background, and all the rest of the layers. Would be so cool if the HS theme added at least 1 layer UNDER the wheel art (could be called Artwork 5 for all it matters, or something like that). Imagine all the crazy stuff we could make!

Cheers!

OH WOW that's pretty close! I wanted to use the fantastic "top of cart" wheel set as seen from above, but this is pretty close to what I wanted to do!

I can't freaking find the said wheel set right now, but i will dig it out and update this post as soon as i can find it.

Kudos!
