hyperactive1 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Hi Guys, I've recently built my first full size arcade cab running HyperSpin - absolutely loving it. The system seems to be up and running, apart from a few teething issues that I’m trying to figure out, but one issue is holding me in my tracks - key mapping. Hyperspin is Mapped to my arcade joystick, MAME also works fine as expected. But I can’t find the keyboard keys for the other systems/emulators like NES, AMIGA, C64, SNES ETC. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction! I'm using JoytoKey to setup each system/emulator, but having a problem finding which keyboard keys relate to the buttons on the controller for each system. I'm wondering if there is an online resource which shows which keyboard keys relate to the joystick buttons for all systems/emulators. Would save a load of time, even if someone could upload an excel doc, I’m sure the info would help more people than just me. Many thanks in advance! Dan
natari Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Just my 2cents, but you'll have to launch each emulator and check its preference to find which keys to map to joytokey, what I started to do for all my systems. I then had issues with a SNES emulator and so I turned to MAME and worked great so I then used MAME for all my systems on my arcade cabinet. I was shocked by how well MAME emulated them. Once you set MAME as the emulator, launch the game and go into MAME setup and configure (I think) its 'configure this machine' and it will save out a cfg file for that system. was pretty easy. GL hope this helps.
32assassin Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Both of yo would save yourself allot of time by simply mapping your joystick directly to your emulator. their is no need for you to convert your joystick button key presses to keyboard keys. MAME has an auto set function it will automatically detect and map your any joystick you have connected to your PC. and on a side note, if you use Retroarch, you only have to set the keys for 1!!! emulator, and any core (emulator system) you load in Retroarch Retroarch will use the same keys. their is no need to map individual emulators. and for the OP, nobody has a list of keys because each emulator will have a different set of keys and nobody will make a list for every emulator NES, what emulator are you running, Nestopia , FCEUX, Jnes, VirtualNES, BizHawk, RetroArch, RockNES, Nintendulator, higan, Nemulator
adamg Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 I tried to at one point Assassin but as you stated, there are just too many of them. I might be able to drum up that spreadsheet. What I ended up doing was mapping to emulator but I still see merit in having a list of emulator default keys. Maybe I will pick it back up over Christmas break.
32assassin Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 their is a preferred or recommended emulator list to use with Hyperspin, thread somewhere in the forums. if you like you could do one for that list. but for me I rather use joystick buttons mapped directly to the emulator. I know that this is not a solution for everyone especially if you run systems like Amiga that require a full keyboard. but then again I would assume you would hook up an actual keyboard to use with that emulator.
