Capcom Play System II issue

Hi all,

I've been working on setting up HyperSpin with GroovyMame since yesterday. I managed to get MAME, SNK Neo Geo and Capcom Play System 1 working well. However, I'm trying to set up CPS II but I just can't get the games to start in RocketLauncher or HyperSpin.

I had the same problem with CPS 1 and fixed it by downloading the CPS 1 xml Database from hyperspin-fe. I'm of course using the CPS 2 xml database from hyper-spin-fe now but it just won't work.

Hoping anyone can help me out.

I tried to look through this log file and noticed it said the rom was not found. Is this the issue? Because the zip file is in the roms folder, so it should. ?

Log is in my first post.

Are you working with a full romset? split?  pzloop2j is a clone of pzloop2, it is in the directory too? And the bios of course? Does it run in mame standalone outside of RL?

Beyond that you probably have to set the RL log to "troubleshooting" to be of any real use:

* just remember to turn it back after you get the log as it can slow down performance when on.

Hi Spawk, firstly thank you for the reply.

I am using the MAME 0.185 romset (split), I did not get any CHD's but it seems this game shouldn't need them? Yes, here are the 3 "pzloop2" files in my roms folder:

I'm not sure what the name of the BIOS zip is, although in this next picture you can see it says I have 72 BIOS'. It does not run in standalone MAME(GM) outside of RL. So that must mean it is a problem with the files, correct? Here is what it says when I try to boot it through GM:

And here is the log you requested: (sorry for length). I selected "Logging Level" to "Troubleshooting". Hope this is correct...

The file you need is in qsound.zip

There have been changes in Mame to this file lately. The file inside used to be called qsound.bin, now is named dl-1425.bin

Errors like these only usually happen when you mix and match versions (using mame .201 with an .185 romset for instance). I not too familiar with groovymame but make sure you match the versions up.

With the 0.201 build, MAME has changed how it implements QSound. The 0.201 full romset now lists both qsound.zip and qsound_hle.zip
These two files are identical internally, so you can either source qsound_hle.zip or you can just copy qsound.zip and rename the copy as qsound_hle.zip

Yes that will fix that one game but the OP is clearly mix and matching versions so how many other games will need fixing as well? It would be better to grab groovymame .185 that matches thier romset or update thier romset to .201 or whatever the newest version is IMO.

Hi Spawk and Kondorito.

Yeah, I am using using mame .201 with a .185 romset. .185 was the highest I was able to find. If I find .201 romset, delete the .185 roms and replace with the .201 roms in the same folder it should work? It seems much easier to do that opposed to downgrading my mame version (as that may require other stuff changing too).

Update: I actually have 0203b mame. Will .201 romset be ok with that? I assume theres no .203 romset or you would have mentioned it.

I got mame from the latest download page on its official website : https://www.mamedev.org/release.html

and to Spawk's last comment, yes definitely need to correct the romset because CPS III also won't play anything! ?

Romsets are quite large so its probably easiest to to grab mame .185

Again though, if .201 is the latest romset available to you, then use mame .201 not .203 There may be less changes from those 2 than .185 but there will still be changes!

Most if not all of the classics run on all these versions so you only really need to update very little. Just make sure to match versions.

I was able to find the .203 set so will use that with my 203 mame. Hopefully it will work! I'll report back tomorrow / Sunday.

Also deleting the log file because nobody wants to scroll all the way down :)

Yeah thanks, in the future you can use a site called pastebin and just post a link to it here.

Thanks Spawk. The solution worked and all the games that wouldn't work before now work. I just had to update the roms to my MAME version. Although the only game that didn't work is pzloop2 game. I guess it requires the CHD files or something but it's ok don't care for that one much anyways.
