Description

Let's put it short: HyperSpin is just a great frontend, be it for your cabinet or a home theater pc. But a lot of the assumed rom file names in the configurations just don't meet the names of the rom files in my (and your?) collections. So getting the roms to work with it can be a real pain when done by hand.

HyperSpin RomManager helps you to get a copy of your roms in order to meet the namings of the HyperSpin configurations. The workflow is as follows:

How it works

1. Define the HyperSpin configuration file (one of the .xml files in the Databases directories), set the Rom source directory and Destination directory and tweak a few options

2. Scan the rom files and let HyperSpin RomManager do a fuzzy match to find the right rom for the game, have a tea while the software scans and matches your collection :tee:

3. Check the result, edit any associated file if needed

4. Run the copy process

and you're done.

Cool, you are missing the field for Rating (and enabled if you want).

So this is like a clrmame rebuilder but using fuzzy naming rather then crc?

Indeed it can be seen as a fuzzy clrmame. I chose this method because some people want to play european versions instead of us versions.

I will add fields in the future, though these fields are read-only as of yet.

This seams to be a great app, i will give it a shot. But let me ask you one thing... Cat we use your program to rename also media files? Renaming all wheel sets or videos to fit the database names are a real pain in the ass.

If so, this program could save many hours of work to every hyperspin fans :)

I'd be more than happy to create a HyperSpin ArtManager, we will have to talk a bit about the specifications though.

Actually I thought about that way too, not sure how much the skinny match tool and other tools actually work that way, but in the end I decided to have a rom collection fit to the names of the DB instead renaming the DB or the artwork itself.

I didint know anything about these other tools that you mention. I have been looking arround and they do exactly what i need. I think that your tool is great in conjunction with these media matching tools.

Thnks!

This tool will work for art already, just point the roms dir to your art dir instead.

Usefull app, congrats! Does this work the other way around also? I want the XML to match my roms. Only the game name field in the XML should be changed accordingly.

Thanks for releasing this, very much appreciated.

I very much look forward to trying this because hyperlist is a pain for me it seems LOL

Trying to rebuild in clrmamepro using the dats and xml's posted on hyperlist is somewhat a pain because I think these dats or xml are not created correctly.

For example I have the latest SNES no-intro set

Nintendo - Super Nintendo Entertainment System (20101227_CM).dat

clrmamepro tells me I have 0 misses

Missing

·Sets 0/3444

·ROMs 0/3444

·CHDs -/0

·Samples -/0

·Bytes 0/5gb

When downloading the dat from hyperlist for SNES although it says NOT FINAL 874 games I can only rebuild 126

I wish staff or members who kept there sets always updated released these dats or xml's for hyperlist to make things easier. Or if I need to collect TOSEC or whatever is the standard here I can do that as well. Which is it BTW?

No need to post the same thing on multiple threads... I've answered your other thread.

MK2K Congratulations, it's really a good way to start the community,

bringing to us this tool, I think it will be very helpful.

Keep it up!

Not yet, that could be implemented in an update.

Please do. It's much easier for me (and probably others) to maintain my sets this way, instead of changing it to the Hyperspin rom naming.

why not just use HyperSync

I am actually using this tool right now. It's very helpful and cuts the time managing my roms and xmls down significantly. Nice job!

This is the most epic thing i've seen all week. Thanks you very much for creating this tool! I've been fooling around with clrmamepro and its desire to delete about 40% of my roms for the past two days since I can't seem to find a no-intro set.

Silly Question: If i use this program and rename and match the roms to the xml list while they are torrent zipped or possibly even 7zipped. Will the emulator launch the game properly?

I ask cause i noticed when unzipping a 7z rom it had the tosec name inside... =(

I will test this soon i still have to extract them all because the emulator does not support 7z so looks like i will have to rename them all over again. =(

Posted

I don't think that your question is silly, the HyperSpin Rommanager only copies and renames the files it finds, so if you scan a folder full of 7z'ed files, only the name of the packed files will get renamed and not their content (the files inside each 7z that is).

The emulator will launch correctly because it will get the 7z file as parameter upon launch. There are emulators that give you a file selection dialogue when there are multiple files in a zip/7z/etc., some emulators just launch the first file they find inside.

HyperSpin Rommanager doesn't rename the content because inside a packed file can be multiple files and there is no easy general rule for renaming multiple files.

Hint: you won't need to rename all files over again! If your emuator supports a different compression format, for example .zip, you can use WinRAR's converter functionality to convert all 7z to zip, then the names should already be correct to the XML.

If you want to rename files inside the archive, use clrmame.

Can this software rename a directory of PNGs to match a XML if the user doesn't have the games and ROMs. I couldn't get it to do what I wanted unfortunately.

If it can't do it yet is it possible to add support for what I describe please?

Posted

B2K24: sure, treat the png's as Roms in that tool. Don't forget to set the value in the file extension field to png then.

Avar: "Fatmatch uses fuzzy logic to rename artwork and video files to match your rom set." <- I wanted it the other way around hence coding HyperSpin Rommanager.

Posted

Yeah thats exactly how i am using Hyper RomManager now. I been renaming my flvs and pngs this way. I really like the missing.txt so i can go back and track down the rest of the images/videos. As a bonus it copies all the correctly named files as well as the renamed ones to another folder so that way you only get the images you are using. I don't have a bunch of non-used videos/images anymore. =)

This is much better than fatmatch. Huge timesaver! Thank you for the amazing tool.
