ultrastik 360 not working with hyperspin

Hello,

I'm fairly new to hyperspin (been using a couple of months)

I have configure my keyboard layout with an iPac Ultimate but I ran out of buttons on the for my player 3 and 4 coins, so i bought a Ultrastik 360 to replace a couple of pins for a joystick.

The problem is I can't get the joystick to be used in hyperspin at all.

Does anyone have any experience with these joysticks and hyperspin set up?

Thank you

Ultrastick 360  are Analog Joysticks.  they use the X,Y,Z  axis   They do nap map to the Arrow keys.

Hypespin  does not have support for this type of joysticks.  Make sure you have them disabled in HyperHQ.

You can use the Ultrastik  Custom  mapping to map the arrow keys to  analog joystick  and control Hyperspin.

Thank you for this advice, I will try this tonight when I get home.

If I decide that this stick isn't right for me, what would you recommend to try a get those 4 extra pins? Buy a Second Ipac?

thank you,

I might not be the best person to ask this

I phase out keyboard encoders (like the Ipac) years ago.  Because of the conflicting  key mappings.

I'm sure you had allot of fun finding a unique set of keys for your  4 players

If you are using 4  USB joysticks and you are using Retroarch.

(IF you wire all your joysticks the same way)  -->  map one controller   =   all other controllers are automatically mapped.

Most if not every emulator, PC game out their has full   Joystick mapping support (the only problem is with Hyperspin).

I would use those Ultrasticks  for Joystick and button inputs  and  use the Ipac for my service keys

( Unless you are using the Ipac Ultimate as an LED controller it would be such a waste of $100,   you might be better of buying an Arduino for $10 or less and load a keyboard emulator program)

and use the Start Up script to map you Analog joysticks to control Hypespin.

Hi,

I actually am using the iPac Ultimate for my LED's as well

I'm don't think I'm using retroarch, but RocketLauncher instead.

is this script easy to modify?

Thank you for your help

So i tried making a custom map for my ultrastik and still couldn't get it work, I also disabled them in HyperHQ.

Is it even worth it or should i just get another encoder, I really rely alot on youtube videos to get some of this stuff done, but I'm not having any luck on them.

Thank you for your help and advice

I have Ultrastiks on my cab and have them functioning in Hyperspin using JoyToKey. For all other emulators they will show up normally as controllers, just make sure you follow the installation instruction so that each one gets the correct device id.

MAME should load 4 and 8 way profiles automatically which is one big advantage of using those sticks.

Retroarch  =  Emulator that loads your roms so that you can play your games

Rocketlauncher = program used to launch your emulators as Rocketlauncher does not run any roms (games)

if you do not know whats the difference between  Retroarch and Rocketlauncher.

do what you know what to do.  The easiest thing would be to buy a second keyboard encoder.

if you have a 4 player cab you defiantly need another  Ipac Ultimate to run all your LEDs

especially if you want RGB so that they turn on a different color for each system or game similar to this video

Thank you for this advice and link, I tried JoyToKey earlier this week, but couldn't get it to work. But now that I have this link I'll try it out, step by step.

I only have one Ultrastik, cause I only need to free up 4 pins on my iPac Ultimate.

I also have multi mode on my iPac which lets me make player 1 and 2 controls register as gamepad controllers (so I can play DoA, MK, etc.), if I install Ultrastiks on all my player set ups, will that affect multimode and mess up my controls when i switch them to game controllers?

I  would appreciate your input on that.

Also did you do anything special to connect all the usb ports from the ultrasticks to you pc set up (splitter, etc.) or do you have enough usb ports to support them all?

thank you!

Thank you for clearing up about Retroarch and RocketLauncher, I'm pretty sure I have both.

I have played in RocketLauncher application when I was setting up my PC Games

I did order another iPac 2 just so I could get the other 4 pins to work but I would like to at some point change all my joysticks to Ultrastiks, cause they are pretty nice.

My LED's are only single color and not RGB, so I have more than enough pins, still need to configure LEDBlinky for them though.

Thank you for the advice!

I'm not sure I can help you with that. I did buy a iPac but never used it as I have 4 Ultrastiks which have the 8 buttons as you know . Player 1 & 2 have 7 gameplay buttons with the 8th being player start. Player 3 & 4 have 6 gameplay buttons, player start and player 3's 8th button is coin up.

You can see the layout here.
