floatingyeti Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 My overly complicated RetroArch(MAME) Plug N Play Project Three months ago I decided to test every standalone Plug and Play, Handheld, and Bootleg Multicart playable in RetroArch(Mame). Specifically, I was targeting System-on-a-chip or NES-on-a-chip (NOAC) devices like VTxx or Xavix. Basically something similar to Project PLUG 'N Play but with a focus on the devices and not individual games and developers. The biggest issue was how similar all these devices were. The same JungleTac/Waixing/Nice Code games show up on different pug n play or handheld devices with different manufacturers. In short its a mess of repackaged games in multiple form factors. That all sounds vague and confusing but I think I managed to categorize all these devices in a way that makes sense. I have identified as many “product lines” that I could and the rest I sorted into different “Retro System” categories. Retro Game Systems: Any device not in a product line that has games that are original or knockoffs. Download Retro Game Bootleg Systems: Any device not in a product line that contains unaltered NES/GEN/SNES games. Download Retro Game Licensed Systems: Any device not in a product line that is officially licensed using an Intellectual Property(IP). Download Retro Game Systems Ports: Any device not in a product line that is an officially licensed port. Download Radica Play TV (2000-2007): A series of Plug N Play (mostly) interactive sports equipment. Download dreamGEAR Plug 'N' Play (2004): A series of Plug N Play devices with JungleTac game compilations. Download Senario Vs Maxx (2004-2009): A series of Plug N Play devices with JungleTac game compilations. Download Jakks Pacific Plug and Play TV Games (2004-2008): A series of Plug N Play devices with officially licensed games based on cartoon and comic-book characters. Download Jakks Pacific Gamekey (2005): A series of expansion cartridges for Plug N Play devices with officially licensed games based on cartoon and comic-book characters. Download Lexibook (2007-2020) Another series of Plug N Play devices with officially licensed games based on cartoon and comic-book characters. Download Radica Arcade Legends (2004): A series of Plug N Play devices with officially licensed Sega ports. Download Senario Multi-Player System (2004-2005): A series of Plug N Play multiplayer trivia, board game, and casino games. Download PDP VG Pocket (2005-2006): A series of Handhelds with licensed (Disney/Konami/Taito/Data East) games and JungleTac game compilations. Download Bandai Let's! TV Play (2006): A series of Plug N Play devices with licensed Namco and Taito ports. Download Hasbro TV Board Games (2007): A series of Plug N Play devices with licensed games based off Hasbro board-games. Download VideoJet Pocket Dream Console (2008-2013): A series of Handheld devices with Conny original(?) games. Download JungleTac Sport Vii (2008): A Mini Console (Nintendo Wii knockoff) with built in WiiSports clone game and cartridriges containing JungleTac game compilations. Download Ultimate Products Zone (2009-2010): A series of Mini Consoles (Nintendo Wii knockoffs) with Waixing original(?) games. Download dreamGEAR My Arcade (2010-2018): A series of Handheld and Plug N Play devices with licensed Data East games and knockoff game compilations. jss1234 Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Thank you soooo much!. I've made some of my own for the Mattel games. Not close to your others. Hopefully one day you'll do those too. Thanks again. Your wheels are so much better than mine 1

I haven't made any media for the system because it is currently unplayable. 2
Retrogamer79 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 I can share this if you like. I don’t have the videos. I got the discs and cases from launchbox. I got it running in (mame) retroarch (with no sound) but not sure how to set it up in rocklauncher because you maunally have to load the discs when in mame. 1 3

I got it working with rocketlauncher but scanning the cards always has to be done manually through the MAME menu. I was renaming the cards so the weren't just numbers but the slow speed and lack of sound made me quit before I completed the system. MAME emulation for HyerScan was showing great progress and then it stopped for the last year. 1

floatingyeti Posted July 4, 2025 Author Posted July 4, 2025 @jessfranco Thank-you! I'm currently working on MAME 0.278 but the update is so massive that It might take another few days. I've been meaning to update my Plug N Play systems for a long time and 0.278 added many new PNP/HANDHELD devices. I need to make updated databases and media packs for many of the systems archived here. I've been horribly unproductive the past year but I will make an effort to share a much overdue update. 2 1 4
