Different Emulators, Same Game Wheel

I know I've seen this on the forums before, no idea where the thread is at this point now that I need it.

I'm looking to use different emulators for the same game wheel. I know it's possible, there's something about putting a tag in the system's xml for an executable.

I don't want to create separate game wheels because I'm relatively OCD about organization...just different settings work best for some games with the emulator I'm using, and I don't want to alt tab the emulator and adjust settings on the fly for each game.

It would pretty cool to have something like this for the reasons you're talking about. what about a favorites wheel that instead of games it has diff emu selections? Worst case, just setup a whole new seperate HS! ha ha!

Add <exe>"system2"</exe> to games in the .xml with a different emulator.

This can be accomplished by setting up a second version of the system (or copying and renaming the old one) and pointing that system to a different emulator.

You don't have to copy/duplicate any of the artwork since the 1st system's wheel already contains everything. Just remove it from the Main Menu wheel so it doesn't show up where it doesn't belong.

This can be repeated if needed for more than two emulators per wheel.

Could this method be used for a series wheel, for example if i wanted to create a Castlevania only wheel?

How do I go about hiding the "fake" wheel on the main menu without removing the system from hyperspin entirely?

Comment out the systems you don't want to display in the "Main Menu.xml" database, that is wrap them like so:

<!--<game name="Atari 2600"/>-->

Yes

I have tried this with setting up Castlevania as a system then adding 5 games, 3 NES & 2 SNES, i set up the main emulator as Nestopia, with the following added to the XML for SNES games

<exe>Super Nintendo Entertainment System</exe>

for example

<cloneof></cloneof>

<exe>Super Nintendo Entertainment System</exe>

<crc>d85e743d</crc>

<manufacturer>Konami</manufacturer>

The NES games load fine, however the SNES games don't

i get the With any provided extension message

what am i doing wrong?

I see what is wrong now, i had made copies of the Castlevania Snes roms and added them to a new folder entitled Castlevania while adding an extra abriviation onto the end of the file name for example "Super Castlevania IV (USA)(SNES)"

that was ok for the NES games because they would be listed as the main system, of course adding the exe for SNES setting therefore its pointing to the default folder.

i get the part about adding the "exe" entry to the game xml but im lost on this setting up a second version thing, could u explain how to do this, ive read it 20 times already and still dont quite understand what it is ur saying to do, i must be a super noob, lol, when i try to execute the game i get "cannot find "..." .ini" all ive done is add an entry to the game .xml what do i do now?

The <exe> tag in the XML underneath the game should be pointing to the actual system name and not the exe for the emulator. For instance, an example would be:

<exe>Super Nintendo Entertainment System</exe>

This should also be the name of the system folder inside your Emulators folder.

I have been getting trouble trying to get a dreamcast game running using this method of one wheel with two emulators ...

I have my main dreamcast wheel as mulldc and most part fine ,i want speed devils working

and to my delight demul runs speed devils yey !! so what i did was create a new system called dreamcast 2 and hooked it up to the directories and demul for the emulator and used a 1.0 script ,the wheel works perfectly.

I then changed my original sega dreamcast.xml in the databases folder to

<exe>"Sega Dreamcast 2"</exe> like this ....

<game name="Speed Devils" index="" image="">

<description>Speed Devils</description>

<cloneof></cloneof>

<exe>"Sega Dreamcast 2"</exe>

<crc>f782deca</crc>

<manufacturer>Sega</manufacturer>

<year>2000</year>

<genre>Racing</genre>

</game>

now when i start and go into sega dreamcast wheel - speeddevils i get the error

could not find Sega Dreamcast 2.ini ,the system i made for demul is called Sega Dreamcast 2 ,i have not disabled this wheel and my emulator folder is called

Demul as this one emulator is running multiple systems Naomi and Atomiswave at the same time from two other wheels.

any ideas guys ?

Hi all! Today I have been trying to add a second version of mame for certaing games to my Hyperspin.

I'm having the same problems people had a few years ago, when launching the game it says:

cannot find "MAME Alt".ini

but this ini file is in settings directoy, and I did everything else like pointing the system to the emulator from HyperHQ.

Any possible solution??

Edit: No problem, I made it without the "".
