SIMPLYAUSTIN
Hi guys, im looking at starting a project. Missus wont let me do the normal cab thimg so I was thinking of going down the road of making ut into a coffee table. Im thinking of smashing a 40inch led tv I have spare into a coffee table design I have in mind. When off I want it to look just like a normal table. Im thinking of black or tinted toughened glass. Problem is that I dont want to loose any of the brightness and clarity once the system is on,but I dont want to see anything like the screen etc when its off. Has anyone used any glass like this or know if this is possible withoutloosing quality???
ericleroi
I used smoked, toughened glass on my very first cab (old pictures - the only ones I have unfortunately): It had a CRT in it but I actually found that the darker glass gave a really good contrast. I'm not sure how you would fare with an LED but I would anticipate that it would potentially improve things.
maxxsinner
I would like to test some electric privacy glass for this kind of project. Have the table opaque when not in use and when the PC is on, it turns the privacy glass clear. Integrate it with a touch screen and juke box software FTW

Probably quite expensive at the moment but think of the possibilities in the future. Personally, I'm looking forward to a time when thermochromic windows become commonplace. SIMPLYAUSTIN
Fantastic idea! From the look of it, could be looking at around 100UK pounds for me to cover a 40 inch class panel? although Im metric so could be very wrong hehe. Would be an amazing effect though to have it fade in when the PC TV turns on... epic!! I just dont want to see the TV at all when not on, or infact anything under the glass, but dont want it to look dim when its on. And yeah, Im looking into a touch screen thing. Would be epic if I could make a 40 inch Ipad hahaha. Be like Minority report on my coffee table. Link that with 12TB, good CPU, GPU epic games, all music, browsers and extras.... Im excited at what I could make! EDIT: HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!!! I am no good at working with imperial. Just did a online conversion... thats 1000UK pounds!!! Would be amazing but sooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive hehehe EDIT2: Well I did more digging and got it down to 570UK pound for a meter sq on 8mil toughened glass... more like it!
