symplistik Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Hey guys, As the title reads I am picking up a (new to me rig) for my Bartop cabinet build. I currently run hyperspin on my Home Desktop. Below are the specs of the PC I am looking at picking up off CL for $130. It is a small profile case which i like for fitment inside the cabinet. Will this baby be solid enough to run Hyperspin with Mame, Nestopia and zSNES? Intel Dual Core E8400 3.0Ghz Windows 7 2BG Ram 160GB HDD Current Set up: Intel Dual Core E8400 3.0 Ghz Windows 8.1 4GB Ram 2TB HDD This set up can even feel a bit laggy when using hyperspin UI (advanced animations and others already disabled ). I am wondering if that is due to the amount of roms i have installed? (around 10,000) I guess my main question is, Will 2GB of ram be sufficient? I don't play any 3d games. Just Mame, NES and SNES. Help!
Gerurver Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Hai symplistik, I think iets enough to play the mame nes and SNES games. But i think Hyperspin 1.3 will give some little delays in scrolling video's. It gets smoother with more ram. You can also consider XP and then THE lite version if its gonna be à dedicated bartop. Greets, Ger Thanks Gerurver! Yea I was already looking at upgrading the ram in the near future . Just needed a ballpark idea before deciding to pick up this PC. Maybe downgrading some setttings in HyperHQ Optimizer would help it run smooth? (1024x768, App quality MED, No Animated backgrounds ect.) This is the actual PC I may pickup. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06b/12132708-12132884-12132884-12132884-81559927-81560059-81804780.html?dnr=2
dark13 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 2gb should be enough. To check ram's usage just plug a second screen and use bult-in taskmanager. The main problem is .swf based themes. A core2duo is not powerful enough to animate smoothly some hyperspin themes. Once you don't add .swfs to the equation even a 3ghz is good enough for hyperspin A core2quad should be better (have to make some tests), in HS 1.3 flash does multithread while older versions used extra cores only for particles. Automatizing infopanels creation from .csv files for HTPCs themes (look at infopanel tutorial.zip on the ftp in dark13 folder) PNGs to SWFs automatized flash scripts Hyperspin Wheelset automatized template (photoshop's variables + batch) Aeon nox 4.13 W.I.P. hyperspin skin

Thanks for the reply! I currently don't use any .swfs themes. Partially cause I am still awaiting response to get FTP access. But regardless I'm use to not having them so i may not ever add them. I really want to start Downloading some Wheel packs for these systems. lol
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Yeah, I set up a Q6600 with 4 gigs of ram, 6770Ati, new case, power, leads and controller for under a 100 UK pounds. I OC to 3.4ghz on an old chunky cooler I had around. It played everything perfect. Only lag was with the PS2 to note, I benched it on Granturismo , shadow of col and metal gear, playable but you could tell it was hurting. Even Dolphin played well. Dont get me wrong, had to tweak it like mad but it played well. ATi gave me issues with 2 games to note, both VF4 on Naomi and SSW in TTX had issues with some hair and swords... nothing too major. Just buy the parts and fit it right inside the cab. Better cooling and less bulk. Plus its much easier to find a bargain when its in pieces! Simply Austin's YouTube
