avisioncame Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I know it has been asked a million times. Most of the research I have done refers to older methods, and I always find it easier to learn if I ask it myself. I have everything running smooth now, and it's time to trim down the roms I don't need within MAME. I have a two player, six button control panel, and I really do not need games that use broken roms, lightguns, driving wheels, spinners, trackballs, mojang, adult....you get my point. I would be willing to even use a pre-made XML file from a member with a similar panel. But I know this is a very subjective matter so I am willing to do the work myself if needed. Is Don's still the best way to organize your XML list? any other pointers I should know? How can I tell if a game uses specific peripheral controls that I do not have?

It allows you to filter based on your CP setup and lots of other settings. http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/ Thanks, Ron Code Monkey and all around Command Line geek!If you like what someone has said or done for you, be sure and 'Thank' them. And if they changed your life, send them a Beer!

Does that sound familiar to you?
snstay Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Or you can try dons hyperspin. It works out really good
HzerbThaWizherb Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Or you can try dons hyperspin. It works out really good Yeah Dons Hyperspin List Splitter worked great for me. It will output the xml by genres so you can at least use it to thin out some of the gun, driving, mahjong, etc games.
avisioncame Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 I am trying to organize using RomLister right now. The tutorial I am following from the BYOAC tutorial site is so outdated. The "controls.xml" and all that good stuff is out of date...and I don't even understand what it's for. Any help guys?

It's what tells RomLister what each games uses for controls. So when you choose 2 player 6 button, it looks them up in that file. Thanks, Ron Code Monkey and all around Command Line geek!If you like what someone has said or done for you, be sure and 'Thank' them. And if they changed your life, send them a Beer!

Two keys for successful usage of Don's is: 1. Setup the system correctly in HyperHQ, making sure to point to the emulator path correctly and adding in the rom extensions separated by a comma (i.e. for MAME it should be: zip,7z. 2. Run Don's from its own directory in the HyperSpin directory (i.e. C:/HyperSpin/Don's HyperSpin Tools. Here is a I created for Don's usage, click on the 3rd section.
