X-Arcade Dual joystick in HyperSpin

Hello all,

I was able to get a wireless Xbox 360 controller working decently well in HyperSpin. I recently purchased an X-Arcade Dual joystick and have it plugged into my Windows 8.1 computer via USB. I did a fresh install of HyperSpin with no X-padder and tried to get this joystick working without having to do too much customization or relying on other software. I setup the controls in HyperHQ and when HyperSpin first launches, the X-Arcade seems to work fine. I can use the stick to move up and down the wheel and use the button for favorites to view my favorite games. As soon as I press the 1st-player button which sends a "1" keyboard press, the X-Arcade stops working. Again, I have no X-padder currently so I'm just trying to get the joystick to work in HyperSpin. I have already setup the controls in MAME, but I can't even get that far.

Does anyone have recent experience getting an X-Arcade to work in HyperSpin? If so can you provide some guidance? Is X-Padder needed? I'd like to avoid it if possible. I guess HyperSpin is just not really made for joysticks but I thought the X-Arcade would work basically "out of the box" since it sends keyboard signals to the computer. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've already spent probably a few hundred hours researching HyperSpin and barely got it working with the other controller. I'm at a point where if I can't get this to work perfectly and exactly the way I want easily and without much effort within the next day or two, I'm giving up on HyperSpin for good and going to try other front ends. I hope someone has the knowledge required and is willing to help. I'm a full member of both EmuMovies and this site so I've paid my money and "dues." (Time spent researching this)

PS - X-Arcade support is a joke. They have some super short tutorial which basically just implies it is supposed to work, and that's obviously not the case. My joystick is fine, HyperSpin is basically just not working with it for very long.

It's gotta be a key-mapper i'd say. Until/if they ever update the version of hyperspin to actually support controllers "out of the box", then I'm pretty sure you have to go the key-mapper route. But that shouldn't be too incredibly hard. Xpadder, or Pinnacle Game profiler, maybe take some time getting to know them, and see what you can do with it.

I was afraid you'd say that. What a pain in the ass this FE is. Basically the 2nd most important feature that you'd want this program to do, doesn't work. Makes it pretty useless. What a huge oversight and a shame.

The X-Arcade Dual isn't seen as a joystick by the PC. So in Xpadder it doesn't even show up as an option to map keys to. Anyone have any other ideas? Since it's seen as basically a keyboard in Windows I'm just wondering why HyperSpin would have issues with it just working? I setup the keys in HyperHQ and am using the default #1 keys in the joystick which you can't change. Could it have to do with the fact that the X-Arcade has a key set to Left Control, Left Alt, and Left Shift? Any other ideas anyone? Isn't anyone using this controller with HyperSpin?

No, it sends keys to the PC. It's ok, I think I figured it out. It took a lot of time to get the keys set correctly so they'd work but they seem to be working now. The X-Arcade people should stop making some buttons map to function keys like shift, alt, control etc.

And in Mame there are not enough keys. The X-Arcade needs about 3-4 more per side. So I just used multiple keys per function such as making exit 1 and control. Guess I'll see if things continue to work.

Can you show me what your final setup looks like? Did you setup another configuration for the joystick with custom keys? I just bought the X-arcade Solo really cheap and i'm hoping I can get it working smoothly. I tried changing the keys in HyperLaunchHQ so I could exit with the Player one button and with C, but i'm not having any luck.
