Hi,

im sure this has come up before, but my Q button is not working (player 2 button 3)

is there a quick fix, that doesnt require me to edit any XML anywhere, I'd rather not have to learn how to write and compile XML

ive heard that ( Q & S ) are reserved in an AHK file that is used as a quit command ?

But im not using hyperlaunch, does this matter ?

Thanks

-Nolan

(check out my cab build! )

he is not using hyperlaunch so editing the script is not necessary. if you short the the terminal for player 2 button 3 to gnd do you get any response on word pad to see key presses. test this by first disconnecting the wire to that post so that there is no possibility that if the wire is shorted and sending constant inputs the encoder can ignore inputs too that post. test the wire too the post to see if it is shorted to gnd. see if the wire will short to gnd when you press the button, these test will check the physical condition of your setup, assume nothing when trying to troubleshoot. I once spent an hour trying to diagnose a computer monitor interface in the old days when you needed nc 34 cables to connect into rgb sync inputs from an extron 109. I never looked to see if the vga connector was in right because how can you plug a d connector in upside down. the guy who set it up did!

i had the same problem, try remapping the buttons on ur controller to something else, like m and j, that's what i did, no more crashes.... otherwise u will have to change the settings.ini in the hyperspin module if i'm not mistaken that's how i found out it crashes the games when they are pressed simultaneously, hope this helps in the settings folder

Wugly: definitely a hyperspin issue, already narrowed it down to that, Q button responds normally in notepad, also if I launch MAME on its own, not through hyperspin, that button works fine.

Eminem_08: remapping in my ipac4 or remapping within mame ? remapping on the ipac4 was uneventful for me, the winipac drivers dont seem to work when I reprogram (load fails), im still waiting to hear from ultimarc on this. Trying to re-assign in mame, from hyperspin just results in the same problem, its not recognized, because "Q" is blocked by hyperspin.

edit hyperlaunch and find

exitScriptKey q & s

change to something else :)

^ This.

By default q & s are there to abort the script in the event that it hangs. If you edit the hyperlaunch.ahk and change those keys to two unused buttons, I bet you'll be fine.

just seems like something everyone would encounter, well everyone using a 2 player, 3 button setup, that is.

would this be considered a bug ?

I mean, by default, my ipac is setup this way.

I had the same issue, but it was worse with a 4 player setup. If I recall, that's what you have as well? A couple of times Player 3 (I forget which button was assigned the letter S based on MAME's default config) and Player 2, Button 3 (Q). When both buttons were accidentally pressed together (as you can imagine during the madness of a 4 player game), it crashed the script and that ended the fun. It wasn't until reading up on it here that I learned of the Q&S kill combo, but at that point I had already reconfigured my button layout on the IPAC.

This may be a 64 bit problem i never had this issue with regular xp

i had the same problem remapping the ipac controllers, try using PS/2 converter instead of the USB, that's what i had to do, then change the ultramarc settings to PS/2 and it should update the keystrokes on ur ipac controller

I've tried both options, my ipac4 has ps2, and im using a usb keyboard adapter, since my dell has no ps2 ports.

I read about this being a problem, try disabling legacy USB in the bios and see if that helps.... other then that i'm not sure how i can help... :X

I hope it's okay to bump this thread...

I have the exact same problem as the topic starter. I have only a 2 player control panel and everything workes fine in MAME. But i also run Hyperspin, and when i do on the second player the Q button doesn't respond. The hardware is fine obviously, and i tested this in notepad and the winipac program, the button responds perfect but not in hyperspin. I can't reprogram my ipac (a version without USB, 2 players). Because it tells me it fails every time. I changed the hyperspin file that was suggested (s & Q to s & m) but no luck.

I don't know what to try next anymore does anyone have any suggestions? Because i also changed the buttons in hyperHQ but nothing changes...

To reporgram your IPAC you need to right click and run as administrator. Same error message happened to me when I first messed with it. It should work. Also, changing Q&S to S&M (heh) should have worked, strange that it didn't. Hmmm...

Heey,

thx for your suggestion. I was aware of the "run as administrator" option. But this doesn't work either... I really don't know what to do anymore. Already posted a message on the ultimarc boards too, but to response yet.

I changed it in hyperspin to S & M but nothing.. :(

It starts programming..

then it says: Resetting the ipac

And then suddenly: FAILED please reconnect ipac.

If i reconnect the ipac it doesn't work obviously.. if anyone has any suggestions i will be happy to try it.

Hmmmm, do you have another computer available to reprogram the ipac? I actually wasn't able to do it on my arcade PC either, which is running win7. I was able to reprogram it without a hitch on my old winXP laptop.

I just tried my win98(!) laptop and this machine exacly came further in the process but in the end when the bar is all filled up the message "Programming ipac" remains in the status field. It does not go away and at first i trought the application finished programming, because the bar was filled. I tried if buttons did response but on this laptop the ipac isn't responding at all. (But it can "program" the ipac further then my win7 and winxp pc's it seems). Nothing happens when a button is pushed.

I tried it again on my mame pc, which is a winxp 64 bit machine. But when i push the button in notepad still the q appears... I looked into hyperspin and mame againn.. but i can't find any file with settings that still has the q in it... help!:alberteinstein:

I can't program it on my win7 pc either..

Dman that sucks, I'm sorry man. I know the ipac can be fickle, I remember reading back when I was having the same issue that the best results were on an XP based PC, the 32 bit version. That seems to be the only OS you don't have. :D How about this, can you post up your Hyperspin settings.ini. If you can't reprogram your ipac, we have to figure out a way to change the kill script switch...

Wait a second, are you using Hyperlaunch 1.0 or 2.0? If you're on 1.0, as I'm now suspecting, you have to recompile your Hyperlaunch.ahk so that the new key combo you entered S&M can be put into effect.

Are you sure you aren't using Hyperlaunch? Try going to Settings.ini and change:

exit_script_key=q & s

to:

exit_script_key=~q & ~s

By default you can't use q because the exit script key is q&s so making this change fixes it.

@ evil eye:

I am using hyperlaunch 1.0 i guess, that is the version of the filename as your can read in windows. What do you mean exacly by recompiling hyerlaunch. ahk? I changed things in this script but it seems this doesn't affect anything. Can this be right?

@Brolly: I don't know why but when i open my settings.ini c:/hyperspin/Settings/Settings.ini i can't find the lines you say i should change?

Thx both!

umm if you are on HL 1.0 (shame on you!) then you must change those lines in HyperLaunch.ahk instead, make sure you compile the file afterwards.
