Hi people. I have just aquired three arcade legends 1 machines. They are going to be used in my Police Department or Fire Department for kids to play. I am setting up a free movie, game pizza night etc for the kids in my town. I am wanting to add games to the machines, but the game packs I have found are 300 plus. Thats crazy. isnt there a way to get them from someone put them on give the usb or disc back to the owner after using it?..

It is completley possible, it's just not legal. Gotta love the spirit though! :) Mamedevs have some free games on their website that are suitable for a MAME cabinet. :)

DO WHAT YOU WANT BECAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE; You are a pirate!

Seriously though, I can't help you. I'd be a LAWH breaker... And then I won't be able to play Mushihimesama. That's not fun, and I reckon losing your job over something like this isn't fun either.

Lol. Do you think if I said that I worked as a paramedic and was offering my services to the underprivileged kids of my town I'd be entitled to free stuff too..?

Building custom cabinets since 2006..!!

just picked up a arcade legends1, has anyone out there converted to mame, can someone point me in the right direction

The first step is to build a replacement CPU. Have you looked inside it? It's basically a Dell PC with a specialized keyboard controller.

Aw dude, im jealous, i love those machines. If you're going to convert it you should just build a new PC. You might be able to sell whatever gameboard/pc came with it to the local repair guys, getting in good with the local arcade crowd is always a good thing.

I have one... and even though I've built several cabs now... I still can't part with it. And... I paid dearly for those extra paks for it.

If I remember correctly, the paks came on USB sticks that would "lock" to the machine after first use. You would just boot the machine cold with the sticks, and the machine installed the extra game "roms" and updated the stick. I'm sure there was a way around that, but since I bought them legally...didn't matter to me. After the upgrades, I just put them all in a ziplock inside the cab. The games appear to be installed on the main Dell PC drive... nothing fancy. Just a special OS called "JoshuaOS" and the cool interface, which apparently inspired the creation of Hyperspin.

did you convert yours to mame or left it< because iam having trouble finding roms

I left it because I have built several other original 80's cabs up with Hyperspin, MAME, et al.

Why destroy a perfectly working cab?

You can't be serious about the ROMS... plus, that is a taboo topic here. Friend some of the other folks and they may help you out via PM.

BTW, the arcade legend sticks may still be available from Chicago gaming... they also appear on Ebay from time to time.

lol. Sorry... I meant USB "sticks". The joysticks are standard 8-way pac-man style.
