Running Steam on Hyperspin

I am a new member to this forum. For the past few weeks I have been gathering much information on getting my Hyperspin system setup. This forum as well as the video tutorials that members have posted have been indispensable. But I have hit a road block that has me running in circles. Steam setup.

Installed programs

Hyperspin 1.3.3.0

Hyperlaunch v3.1.0.5 BETA

Hypertools 4.3.25

Steam Wheel Creator

I am trying to get Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ running on Hyperspin. I used the Steam wheel Creator and I have the wheel and artwork installed.

Problems

HyperlaunchHQ - When audit games, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ is displayed in pink showing not found. If I try to run Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+

I get this error.

It is probably a simple fix, but I was hoping somebody had an idea.

Hi Squirl, welcome to the forum.

Steam games will show up as pink as there is nothing for HyperLaunch to look for against what's in the XML. Unlike most other systems that have Rom files with and extension to look for.

As for your problem, did you set up PCLauncher under Global emulators like the picture below?

There are also some issues with Steam Wheel creator.

Thanks for the reply GigaPig. I followed your video tutorial and believe I set the parameters properly.

I don't think I have the emulator path set properly. Should I be having Hyperspin point to the Steam.exe file in a .ini?

If this is new to you then you may need to go into the module folder and find the file "PCLauncher (Example).ini" If you don't also have a PCLauncher.ini you need to do this.

Make a copy of the file PCLauncher (Example).ini, then rename the original removing the "Example" so it reads "PCLauncher.ini"

Also I notice you have capitalised the system name "STEAM", you need to be careful and name things Exactly, so Steam should be Steam, it's the reason the icon isn't showing.

A good thing to do if your unsure is to go to the :hyperSpin\\HyperLaunch\HyperLaunchHQ\Media\Icons and look at the way the icons are named.

Thanks gigapig! I used the name "PC Launcher" instead of "PCLauncher" Name change makes Steam go from not working to working.

Did you try Steam? It's strange if that didn't work as mine is named Steam and I also have a separate PC Games wheel as well.

But I'm glad it's working.

Steam works great using Hyperspin. I just installed Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball as well. Still working on getting the video to display in preview of game. The audio works, but no video in Steam wheel preview.

This is what I changed. C:\Hyperspin\Hyperlaunch\Settings\Steam\Emulators.ini

[ROMS]

Default_Emulator=PCLauncher

Rom_Path=

[PCLauncher]

Emu_Path=

Rom_Extension=

Module=PCLauncher.ahk

HyperPause_Save_State_Keys=

HyperPause_Load_State_Keys=

Anyone know where I can find the Steam Wheel Creator? I had a link to info on it, but now that the site has moved those links are all dead and useless (actually links to lots of useful info are all dead and useless now).

I watched your Vid Giga, but it seems to leave out some important info.

-The Steam ID doesn't seem to be in the same place in Steam anymore and you said Steam Wheel has issues? (I don't think those aren't mentioned in the vid).

-Why did you name the folder after PCLauncher? Couldn't it simply be PC Games or Steam?

-Why do you have a separate wheel for PC Games and Steam games? Can they not be in the same wheel.

-Why use a text file to make a list? Couldn't you just have it scan the Steam folder for the game names? Or the list of Steam lnk shortcuts?

-Do I have to do either of those things at all? Can I just manually add them in?

-If I can do I even need to have the games steam ID in the database?

and a couple other things I can't think of at the moment.

Or is there an up to date and complete Steam how-to guide or vid here? The 3 I searched for are all dead links now.

I got the same thing man, any links to hyperspin are dead now and only take you to the front page. I would love a DL for Hypertools and Steam wheel creator. I've been trying to be able to add things to Hyperspin

Awesome thanks man! That's great.

Now here's another question. Since I couldn't find this I spent a few hours last night and built my own database, entered all my own game Steam ID's, Downloaded and set up the game wheel titles and themes etc...

Now can I use this to just connect to steam and maybe grab videos for those themes without screwing up everything else I manually did (it isn't going to overwrite my database for example?). I think all I need now are the vids, I spent a long time on Emumovies last night, but couldn't even figure out how to search or find what I needed on that site.

EDIT: It does want to overwrite your XML, changing names, descriptions and removing ESRB rating info so make sure to back up your old XML database first. Then just copy the new XML info it creates into your old XML and add or change whatever is needed. Works great for the videos, but that's about it.

From Google's cached pages I found this: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:UPycW2jKSscJ:www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php%3F27094-Announcing-Steam-wheel-creator-app+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

Which gives this download link http://bit.ly/1bd6anM

Google's Cache is the only way I can find anything on this site at the moment :(

This worked for me too. You sir are amazing...thank you. Never thought to look in the cashe files. I have been quite frustrated trying to look for info and finding only the main page using links or google.

I need to retry SWC to see if it's still usable, when i made the video guide it was working very well, but now it breaks the xml and throws up errors. It's a shame the author does not update it because is a great time saver. I may also pull the video guide if its causing problems.

A simple alternative would to launch into Big Picture mode and launch games from there. That method is cleaner and requires less maintenance.

It seemed to work good for me although it does overwrite the XML. The new XML works (if your names are the same), but it doesn't contain any of the ESRB ratings info which I like to have. So I just backed up my XML, let SWC create it's own XML then deleted it and made mine the primary again. Worked for me, but I have less than 20 PC games. If someone didn't care about ESRB ratings at all then it should work fine.

I just used it to grab vids mostly. You can google search for better Wheel graphics then it makes.

I have 208 games which makes things tricky, but you can have it just add the games you have installed.

My current xml looks like this, and the wheel art does not show up with the entries that have a single line. I decided to add a Steam Big Picture Wheel as well as a Steam wheel with installed games on.

 <game SteamAppId="200910" name="Sequence">
    <description>Sequence</description>

  </game>
That format looks exactly like how SWC built its XML. Everyone just needs to know to back their existing XML up first, because it doesn'y add new games to your existing XML, it just deletes it and builds a new one.

What is the benefit of those 1 liners?

No benefit, SWC screws it up, it should be filled out properly like the 2 examples above those 1 liners. If the description is missing then the game name or wheel art does not appear on the wheel.

See the gaps.

Gotcha. When I used SWC it filled in the XML properly, no on-liners and it all worked. I just needed to type all the ESRB stuff back in.

However like I said I only have a few Steam games. If I had a bunch like you maybe it would screw up with one-liners.
