Overall, I'm very happy with how it turned out! The 50" vertical screen makes a huge difference for playable real estate. Yes, there are black bars at the top and bottom on 4:3 games, maybe 2 inches on either end... I guess it would depend on your TV how noticeable they are. They do not stand out to me on an LED (below is the one I purchased).
