AAE Update 2 errors and crashes?

I just realized that my AAE isn't the newest version so I started from scratch.

Download the first main file. AAE.exe runs fine. Download update 1 file and unzip it into the AAE folder (overwriting the old files) and it runs fine.

Then I unzip update 2 (which seems to be the final version) into the folder and overwrite the previous files it doesn't work.

Running it flickers then windows says AAE.exe has stopped working. the details box says App Crash.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

Anyone have any ideas or a link to a different download for it?

Using update 1 and dragging the aae.ddl file from update 2 folder into update 1 folder works.

I didn't copy across the video ini file nor the latest exe from update 2, when I did use all of update 2 files, it does the same thing, not working, must close, microsoft will try to look for an error, et cetera. Good luck with it.

Ah cool. I didn't try that, I'll try that out to see what happens.

Thanks for that info!

Was going crazy trying to get this to work! Thanks for the suggestion - worked perfectly!

Yes it will still run, but that doesn't actually give you update 2 and you'll still be missing out on all the fixes update 2 adds: true 4:3/16:9 ratio support, resolution fix, the new menu options, fixed game compatibility, graphics fixes etc...

You have to run the full update 2 files to get the best version.

If yours is crashing on you at launch it's probably because you're running joystick drivers of some sort. Are you using VJoy? If so you can go into your Device Manager, click on VJoy under Human Input Devices and disable the drivers. Update 2 will work while they are disabled.

No, I'm not using Vjoy. I just read the Rlauncher module on AAE and it says to disconnect all game controllers before starting the app. Sure enough, that works. The only problem is I'd be forced to disconnect my gamepads every time I lauinch AAE. That's obviously not an option.

I might be stuck with update 1 unfortunately. :(

If you have to have them hooked up then yes. For me going back to update 1 wasn't an option when 2 was so much better.

My problem was VJoy, but some games need it to work right (Mortal Kombat X for example). I can't be going into/out of device manager on an arcade machine so I made a script that lets me turn the VJoy drivers on/off manually by pressing some joystick buttons.

Been trying to write a script that completely automates it, but it only half works so far.
